Be Rooted

Be Rooted Your Guide to a Peaceful Mind, Kinder Interactions and a Compassionate Workplace.

❖ Compassion t To feel good about ourselves and what we are doing.

"When you drop from your head into your heart, life becomes clear and purposeful"

We all want to feel safe, belong and add value, don't we? I founded Be Rooted to support professionals in their personal leadership and well-being at work. We create safe spaces for professionals across the globe to connect to themselves and each other. To learn about the application of contemplative and compassion

ate practices. That directing your attention inward first, calms and clears the mind, and supports you find root in where you are, where you came from and where you want to go. Pockets of Light
I call these (corporate) spaces 'Pockets of Light'; workplace platforms where professionals feel safe and which facilitate moments of compassion - where we realise that we are not alone and we can empower ourselves by finding Root in our heart, mind and body! Heart-Centred Dialogue
Once we build a community space for open dialogue and connection, we cultivate the qualities of the heart, of empathy, kindness and compassion and bring them into our workplace interactions, then we all thrive. Establishing these compassionate cultures promotes and normalises personal well-being in our professional environments. Our Programs
These micro moments of connection in the midst of a busy day allow give us a relatively short, high impact moment to learn and experience together. Participants learn about life tools based on pillars of Compassion, Emotional Intelligence, Presencing, Meditation and Awareness as well as experiencing directly the effects of contemplation in connectedness. My background:
I founded Be Rooted on the pillars of my own 20+ years of international corporate and management experience as well as my experiences living and working abroad. I hold an MA in Communication, work as a certified Stanford trained Compassion facilitator & a certified ICF coach. My approach is systemic, somatic and holistic, combining different wisdom traditions in online programs, during silent retreats, and live facilitation. As a compassion ambassador, I am commited to living life with my full presence and an open heart. It’s about striving to be non-judgmental and kind in each interaction. And to bring these qualities of the heart to every table I get to sit at. tic wisdom and skilful action. This is where applied compassion comes into play. By creating compassionate communities at work we build sustainable work places and changes company cultures from the inside out.

Deep respect and humility for all I received from and in this beautiful place, these wonderful and kind people, my trail mates and especially my dear teacher. I am packing-up to return home with my heart full and ready to embrace home back home, Rosa and Morris.

The sights, the height (4000 meters), the experiences and the light in the Andean mountains. I have travelled far and near but this place is something else. Extra ordinary and has a spacial home coming place in my heart. 🇵🇪

Landing at Cusco at 3500 height asks quite the adjustment. Physically, mentally, emotionally. I am in a different world altogether. Modern society so far away and even though I have no worldly, familiar road signs to lead the way, there are so many touch points from our spiritual preparations together to guide our steps. All the way up the mountains.

The teachings of the Q’ero Indians of Peru available here to us, make me humble and grateful- these words accompany me on these treks into the mountains. Grateful for being invited-in by Chandra for this opportunity and for , & Wouter back home, making it possible. Without them, I would not be here.

The Q’ero are the direct descendants of the shamanic healers and teachers of the Inca Empire. The Inca Empire was the world’s most advanced shamanic civilization and the Q’ero have preserved its knowledge. It is only since the 1970’s that they have established contact with the rest of us. Since then they have been bringing their original teachings untainted by the modern world to us. The high point of a civilization based upon shamanic principles, Q’ero teachings bring a deep and ancient wisdom to our modern problems.

From the Q’ero elders, we receive key initiations which produce powerful energy shifts and awaken new forms of awareness. Words that years ago would have resonated with me for ‘others’ and yet here I am - ready- to take it all in. To learn. With an open heart and mind. To bring it back home and - at the right time- combine it with the corporate leadership work.

It’s a magical experience. Foundational work, with focus, purpose and most importantly Ayni- the Andean notion of reciprocity. ‘Today for you, tomorrow for me’. Following on this magical path of the heart. 🦅 ♥️

‘Home is where the heart is.’
‘Define that place’.
‘It’s where my children are, always. And yet you travel a lot, ‘leave them behind’ to experience many things.’

‘How does that work?’
Well, when I travel, it’s either for work or to educate myself on the way of the immeasurable heart, the way of the Shaman. And both are to the benefit of our foundation, our home. They know this- or at least, I tell myself they know this. I am their mother first, I love them so.

We had dinner on Monday - a must before I go so far away. Rosa and Morris have their own life, their Dad, friends etc. That’s what we talk about. Our eyes and attention are on that. What they are experiencing, what they want and need, first. This is the biggest, all encompassing, focus of our lives.

Then yes, there is travel, yes. Peru this time 🇵🇪. As I fly out, I leave ‘normal life’ behind and move into the magical mountains and world of the Paqo, the Shaman, as the initiate I am ready to learn, to experience this calling and commitment. To bring it back when I return. To have this work flow into what I do here. For Rosa and Morris. Then everyone else. ♥️

And maybe have a laugh or two on the way, as Ray would say.

Part of the Shamans Way is to connect and work with nature- and I committed to an early rise each day to catch the sun in the wee hours, to hear the whispers of the wind and the first calls of the birds.

This way is by no means an easy way, it’s a path less trodden and unknown to many. It’s like wearing new shades and seeing the world from a different angle altogether. It requires focus, dedication and following the immeasurable way of the heart in every step. It asks you to let go of many of the more earthly desires, the ones I so love🙃, and make your life about serving the planet.

Big words, I know, but don’t be fooled. This way asks you to look and listen closely. To bring your individual experiences, skills and talents in line with a bigger picture, a grander purpose. To work within your own sphere of influence, however big or small. To work your magic towards something larger than yourself. So I would say small words, small steps, yet purposeful steps.

I am starting to prepare for my trip to Peru where I will work with local, indigenous paqo’s, shamans, as a rounding off of my 6-year training in this field. At the same time its also a crescendo as well as a new beginning. I am excited and feel the jitters too.

Over the past years, this road has asked me, in the midst of a busy life, my full-on traveling work-life, zooming life👩🏻‍💻, to become completely still in every moment and listen to the drum of my heart. To take a deep breath, pause at each crossroad, look at each person before me, and ask myself ‘how will this benefit others, a greater good?’ To deeply listen to the whispers and take leadership to only then move, act, illuminate a situation with light, lightness and lightheartedness to people around me.

It’s quite the journey. It’s quite the way.

It’s Equinox- and as we turn our faces to this new season, the Fall, we harvest all the joys of Summer and metaphorically move more inward. Shedding our leaves, we give them to the earth so we can build on the fruits of what we learned. A time to listen closely to some of the more subtle stirrings in our hearts, understanding its way. Like turning into the night, led by the moonlight; what are you here to do, be, add, in big ways or small?

What I know for sure is this, I am free, and walk the yellow brick road. Bring peace where I can as well as a little fun. As we feel into what’s right for us to do, to add to the world, be like Hermes, the goddess with the wings on her heals.
I belong to the moon and the stars in every way and lift the veil between this life here and the other, bringing the spiritual into the physical.

And then its almost Christmas😉where we’ll see what this Fall brought us for real.

Onward!

Moon & Mist in the wee hours here in München. Nature quietly awakening, as am I. Walking off the beaten track finding mushies and listening to the birds singing their tune. Not worried what anyone thinks of their song- just singing.

And so should we. Morning music and hidden gems are the best way to kick off another day. There’s no one around and in the silence you can listen to your heart beat. To how it is, how it feels and how it wants this day to go. Intending for participants to enjoy another day of learning, foraging, drumming to their own leadership beat.

I will hold space. As I do.

There are moments we never want to have end and there are moments we would like to have missed. But if you reframe that; every moment is -full stop. Without good or bad as a label, its just what it is. We fall down, get back up, learn, continue to love ourselves, each other and the moment itself.

Back from working in Shanghai and the twilight zone in every way✨

On earth time and also cosmic time, or so it feels, as well as future time, extra time, lost time.

Time is a relative notion. Its a construct we use to control what is going one, to label what we are experiencing.

The time notion of Kronos refers to a specific amount of time and the concept of Kairos, is the idea of a moment, an opportune time. Both experienced in a different way.

Kairos was the Greek god of opportunity. He had wings on his feet and darted quickly about. Kronos has its origins in the practice of Greek archery, representing the moment when the archer finds the perfect opening to shoot his arrow and hit his target. So how we measure our days and our lives quantitatively.

Time is strange, a concept created by man to take control of the movement in the skies. Once I throw the concept of time out the window, there is so much opportunity in the experienced time, possibility in the moments, in the present. I am not thinking of the past- regretting, pondering the what ifs- nor wondering about the future- about what might be- because in Shanghai I was in the future. Literally asking my children how their Tuesday was when I had ended my Tuesday. Not long ago I was in Arizona, with extra time, trippin’ about the land in my Jeep.

And then there is also lost time in the twilight. At least in my brain.✨

Answering to the call of your her(e)oin’s journey. Back in Arizona for a next leg.

It looks easy - and I am definitely enjoying it- but it actually requires some courage and trust. That this is what you should be doing, with whom you should be doing it. Saying a big YES to the way your life seems to be going. To embracing that which you feel you have come here to do, change, influence on the planet to the benefit of all. In my case, to stay on the move, to bring love to all corners of the world, to lighten people’s hearts, to live-out each micro moment of connection in the best way possible. It happens when you are truly present for someone else, for the vibe in the moment. To find the hidden treasures that the moment encapsulates.

What I find to be true is that in each of these moments, asking the right question, listening deeply, bringing the energy of allowing to the conversation for someone to be completely at ease and themselves, safe enough to do that, can change the course of a life, including my own. Inform a better decision, make someone feel heard and seen. Propel someone to be better, choose better, heal. It’s small and big at the same time.

I have nothing but memories of light on this land here; with my family back in 2019, with friends this year, jeepin’ around, working in tipi. I turn my face away from all that doesn’t serve me nor a bigger picture, and towards making some form of difference.

Flipped reality; what’s in the (mirror) image? Things are not as they seem; and we often don’t see things ás they are, but we see things as wé are. It’s all about perspective.

We are multilayered beings; we can objectively label what see with the mind. Which is different from how it makes us feel, with the heart. And different again where we each feel it, in our bodies. Then there is the inner knowing; the direct experience before the narrative kicks in and it informs us what it is we are experiencing without the label.

So after moving through these layers, we can make an educated guess as to whats truly going on, so different for all of us as we come from different backgrounds, family structures, childhood messages, country cultures and archetype worlds.

How we see the world is a matter of perspective. I love seeing the world in the water, it feels like seeing into another world. Everything is real yet not. Upside down, blurred yet real. You can see the contours of what we call life and at the same time drown in the movement of the water flowing with the wind. In a way it feels like the sea; depicting the eb and flow of our onward way.

Take a fresh perspective; what do you see and feel when you see these images? Where do you feel it in your body and how is this informing you?
On who you are, who you are no longer, what you dream of, where you want to go next?

‘August Breeze’, the girl with the wind in her back and hair across her face. I love the movement in this art piece, that I bought a while ago. It depicts trust, moving forth with the wind in your back and yet, not being able to see the future - the road unknown, yet to reveal itself.

If you surround yourself long enough with art that touches something deep within you, it will start affecting you. Affecting your ways, the stirring of your heart, the choices you make and it can inform you of the invitation you want to extend outward.

A lot of my art is about seeing, not seeing, looking, turning your gaze away, being seen and not. She seems trusting with an inner knowing that things will unfold as they should, or as they will. Which has a certain divine timing to it. You’ll know what to do, she seems to say, let go and trust. Blinded by the wind (and the sun maybe, this August 😉 in NL)- step by step, easy breezy.

Rosa said; Mum, this is you. 🩵🤍

August is here. The breeze is here.

Whats in yóur back and what’s to come?
Ultimately, what do you see when you look at her? Where does she touch your heart?

Although less explicit than other things going on, the journey to AZ and Vancouver was also about finishing the walk I had started 2 years ago. In Normandy, in France, in Canada, now also AZ and Canada again (as he fought side by side with the Canadians).
Walking the 100 days of Normandy, in honour of my Ray, my Dad, RAF soldier on DDAY, who would have turned 100 years old that year. Taking the last steps this last Monday, that journey coming to an end, and was humbling. Remembering all the sunlight that Ray brought to my life. The compassion, the wisdom to make your life count in whatever small or big way.
Not realising at first that with each step I took, I wasn’t only honouring him and his life, but mine too. A life is a life, that of Brian and that of your own😉. To understand we can make something of it in each moment, and that each micromoment can change your life forever.

I was asked another beautiful question once; Given the choice of anyone (fictional, non-fictional, dead, alive) in the world, who would you have over for dinner and why?

This would be Ray, who passed over in 2004. We would have dinner with friends and Ray would bring a kind word for everyone, humour and quick wit, and compassion to the table. We would laugh; stories would be shared from experiences from around the world; he would show genuine interest and make the conversation about you as well as try to make the atmosphere easy for everyone. There would be a deepening into our hearts and broad, historic as well as multi-layered reflections on life. It would feel like a sea-breeze; nice and easy yet as we all go home, we would feel filled to the rim with profound insights and leave with a joyeus feeling. In short: our hearts would be full, and we would move forward sharing this with others.

And so new beginnings on the horizon, I will follow suit, and hope you do too.
Start moving today.

Light, a roadtrip to Arizona and Vancouver these past weeks, light in every way. These 10 shots don’t even begin to capture the wholeness of our time there. The vastness of light, breaking the dark, the skies, the land, the water. The birds flying across my head during the walks, whales jumping in the harbour alongside my boat. Insights from tipi time with , laughter with . The stretches of personal growth, experiencing life in a whole new way, Joy with a capital J.

There is so much healing in travel. It shifts your perspective, helps you see, truly see what it is you may stop, continue or develop. It literally brings me alive. The elements so close, the earth, air, water and so much fire. From the lands, earth, red rocks in AZ, to the skies of Vancouver Island , to the water of the harbour. Adventures, micro moments of connection. The vast lands to the Big city that nevers sleeps and nor did I. The mystical world, mystery school in tipi, the buzz of the big city. Stretch!

I now understand more, feel more, allow more, am present even more. Presence, that which has always been my teaching is now literally my being. The ability to tap into universal wisdom in each moment, ground it here, add value to others, the big reason, the bigger meaning, in all those micronmoment of connection, as well as compassion.

Grace, gratitude, fierce and fire in the feminine, love. Words that matter, big words that ring true.

And then there is always Joy, my own and everyone else’s:
The sole purpose of the moments of connection I observe, engage in, ground the energy- how will someone feel after I step away? Once I asked myself; imagine if you measure your success by how safe someone feels in your presence? With the implicit underlying invitation to be someone, feel something, see something or share something?

I’ll leave you with this; a question for you - a question I was asked by philiosopher poet quite a while ago;

If someone were to offer you your life today, would you take it?
