When thinking about physical activity at the end of a busy day, what comes into your mind? Probably ‘tiredness’, ‘no time’, ‘tomorrow it’s another day’...well, you got the point.

Physical activity is not a luxury, but a necessity that our body needs. Keeping up a certain routine, simple or extensive, will assure that you’ll feel good to be able perform and produce great work. The connection between mind and body is inevitable, and while we think that we can put our body aside as second priority, in the long run it will fail us. If we want to continue create, experience, live, and love life as long as possible, we should always think about our body, and make sure it can take us through the moments, weeks, months, and years to come in the best possible way.

I’m not an expert, not a fitness trainer, and didn’t study any official program at the university about this. I’m a simple person that knows how important it is for my mind and soul that my body will receive its daily activity. Therefore, I compiled five simple guidelines that are very easy to follow and help me personally to give back the body what it needs. Hopefully these will help you as well;

Family; Make it your best team ever!

Have you ever thought about your family as a team? Probably not.

We always say that we can’t choose family; we are born to our parents that become our ‘managers', siblings that automatically receive the status of 'colleagues’, and later we are being promoted to a ‘managerial’ role when we have our own kids. We do get to choose our partners for life, but also this partnership might no longer be relevant if we don’t take the right steps to keep it fully supportive to our personal (and professional) development.

Think about the power and amount of energies we can all gain if we really invest in our family and build it as the next best team. The sharing of so many experiences together creates plenty of stories and challenging moments to learn from for the future. However, if we’ll not know how to nurture these relationships with our parents, partners, and kids, it will bring us down rather than take us up.

The shift to the positive side will only work if all the members in the team we call ‘family’ understand that listening, sharing, and constantly self-reflecting can engage everybody to have the best team ever!

Gain and Retain - Which learning benefits do you offer to keep your employees on board?

“Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t want to” (Sir. Richard Brandson)

Coming every day to the office and producing what is expected is only a 2D view of our professional reality. Eventually, we are all in this ride not (only) for the money, but to learn, develop, and reach new heights. Once this excitement is not provided, we will start to look for it elsewhere, and we all agree that a high employee turnover is the nightmare of any organisation.

So, if you employ people or have any direct influence on these who manage and lead, it is time for some self-reflection by asking “what are the learning and development opportunities I offer to the ones I’m dependent on to deliver our shared success?" Also, ask yourself how much you promote curiosity around you, and not only results and targets.

Don’t wait for others to build the next-gen 'high-level futuristic learning program'. Take initiative and make the first steps for the sake of you all today!

Make or Break - Which role would you like to play?

Last week I got quite distressed after meeting friends who told me about managers with commanding tone and colleagues that strongly believe in the “it’s me, or them” approach.

If you recognise these situations, realise that you have lots of power to change these negative behaviours. Yes, you do!

How? Act as a mentor to others!

By doing so you’ll experience how more and more people want to be around you, because you ‘make’ them become better. Simply create an environment of ‘Making and not Breaking’ within your own circle. Read the full blog on how to become an immediate mentor to others and start to implement these today.

Nobody wants to be part of a ‘Breaking’ environment. We all want to succeed, and this we will only be able to reach if we’ll all ‘Make’ it happen - together!

This week I got quite distressed. At the beginning of the week I met ex-colleagues from a while back. They told me about a very dedicated employee I know, full ...

The power of organisational awareness - when your manager actually knows you and you know yourself;

Only open communication between managers and employees will help us find the best chair in the organisation, and assure we don’t loose good talents along the way.

As a manager, when you sense some performance issues or a lack of motivation with one (or more) of your employees, look beyond the regular tasks and visible elements. Observe, learn, and know your employees to be able to guide and help them grow in the organisation. Being familiar with the work of other departments and the different projects in the pipeline can help you provide the right guiding advise.

As an employee, know your strengths and talents. Don’t compromise and don’t force yourself to like a role you are not complete with. You should feel that you are being healthy challenged and not operating in high-speed while continuing to stand still. If something doesn’t feel right, speak-up to work towards a suitable resolution.

16 years ago I was too young to understand this but luckily I had the right manager to show the right path for me. He didn’t do any magic. He was simply present, and in many ways I own him my career for that.

About 16 years ago I was a very enthusiastic young professional. I had the whole world in front of me, and I wanted to master & conquer the corporate scene. Bac...

Escaping reality or doing it right - What is your next meaningful team activity?

The summer is here! The holiday is around the corner, the inbox is less full, the company’s summer party was a blast, and the mood around is more positive. This is all wonderful and you should enjoy it till the craziness starts again in September. But remember, challenges and unresolved issues that were forgotten due to the great summer sun will still be waiting for us when everyone is back. A team activity can help bring everybody together again.

So, an Escape Room maybe? It helps to demonstrate team work under time pressure. Perfect! But what will happen if you’ll place a team that struggles with their daily mission and tasks in one closed room? They'll probably only try to escape each other.

The ultimate experience will have long term results by dealing with the under-the-surface challenges and not only providing the instant fun. Don’t get me wrong, as any experience you give to your team is beneficial - even a fishing trip. The question is if this activity will bring the change you want to see. If not, you will only escape reality for a few hours.

And of course…enjoy your holiday!

It’s all about your team, nothing else!

In my "younger" years I used to be a flight-attendant. Yes, yes - a true story. From experience, it is a job with lots of great advantages, while the most fascinating element is the constantly changing team members. The success of the flight is always determined by the individuals that just get to know each other for the first time and need to operate as a team. There is no place or time for intrigues, jealousy, or hard feelings. Only smiles, ‘thank you’ and ‘your welcome’, mutual help, and empathy, will get everybody to the desired destination.

Reflect on your current team and ask yourself if all the members work together, understand each other, and see the shared goals. Or does negativity, jealousy, and frustration conquer your daily work in this specific group? What is your intake? If needed, make sure you take the right steps towards a healthy change, as the time you’ll spend with these team members will probably last longer than the average flight time to New-York and back.
