Last week we hosted one of the sessions of the FemStart program for female entrepreneurs at UtrechtInc.

Our colleague Stefan Braam led a session on customer validation: how to find the market proof points that show investors there’s real demand behind your idea. He covered talking to customers early, turning those conversations into evidence, and knowing which signals actually count when you’re preparing to raise.

Proud to see Neurotidal Diagnostics getting attention. 🧠

Founded by Françoise Dekker, Pleun van Veghel, and Prof. Stefan Rüdiger out of Utrecht University’s Rüdiger Lab, Neurotidal is developing FibrilRuler, a blood-based diagnostic test that detects and measures amyloid fibrils, the key pathological marker of Parkinson’s disease.

The goal: earlier detection and more accurate monitoring, giving researchers and clinicians a proper tool to assess how the disease is progressing and whether treatments are working.

UCANACT is developing an innovative technology that converts brain signals into communication and computer control. 👋 Meet ReFOLD!

Did you know that diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis or ALS actually have a common cause? Misfolding of a protein causes that protein to lose its function. Depending on which protein and which cells this happens in, the result is a different disease. For many of these severe and disabling diseases, treatments are scarce. Cures don't exist at all.

ReFOLD Bio wants to change that. The team is developing base-editing gene therapies that refold the misfolded protein and restore its function. Their approach is independent of the cause of misfolding, making it broadly applicable and offering potential cures for diseases affecting millions of people worldwide. Founded by Maarten Geurts, Else Driehuis, Ruben van Boxtel, and Jeffrey Beekman, the team is spinning out technology developed at the Princess Máxima Center. UMC Utrecht and Oncode Institute. Cystic Fibrosis is ReFOLD's first program, with early screening experiments already yielding promising functional results.

The startup is currently preparing for its pre-seed round and is actively looking for investors and both academic and commercial partners to validate their proposition in appropriate disease indication and models

They are currently attending the Science Validation Program at UtrechtInc, and they will graduate in December 2026!

🚀 Start with a problem. Build a company.

UtrechtInc's Tech Validation is an intensive, part-time program (10 weeks) that helps non-academic founders in the Utrecht region determine if their tech idea has a real market. This is Phase 1: Validation. You'll pressure-test your idea against actual customers, so you know whether to build or pivot while it still matters.

Pieter Snelder from Tagetto took part in our Tech Validation Program, where he tested his sourcing and pipeline software for professionals that buy and sell companies. Through our program you'll learn how to talk to real customers, test your business model, sharpen your pitch, and get hands-on feedback from an experienced mentor.
