The book “A Home Baker’s Guide to Food Science” will be having her book launch soon!

My book is finished, and I am planning the day that it will be released in South Africa!

The “A Home Baker’s Guide to Food Science” was written by combining our previous courses from and bringing together the many questions from my students. The book was written over four years, in between all our work, emigration, and life itself.

I am grateful for Vickie de Beer () for the foreword and for the illustrations. Keep an eye on the social pages for more. 🌿

We had a fun photoshoot last month putting some final photos down for the book that will be published soon 🤩. At first I thought about my normal chef’s attire which I feel comfortable in but during break time, and having coffee, my husband secretly took these shots! Photos done! Cheers to impromptu moments ☺️.

For the past year and a half, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Nienke on her skin and nutrition supplement brand, Yuugii. My role focused on helping build the brand through beautiful photography and consistent, high-quality content writing, which I created weekly.

This journey has been incredibly rewarding for me as well. Along the way, I learned a great deal about nutritional supplements, how our bodies respond to food, and how true skincare starts from within. During this time, I also managed to lose 30 kg by making healthier food choices.

I’m proud to be part of Nienke’s business, even if my contribution sits on the marketing and support side. Have a look at what is all about, thoughtfully developed in the Netherlands by Nienke (Master in Food Science) herself, and backed by scientific research and development.

The Introduction to Food and Beverage course here at POPUP Western Cape recently started and we cannot be more proud.

The learners are taught skills and knowledge in food safety, kitchen principles, serving, customer services and F&B Management.

After the three week program they will each receive a Certificate of Attendance after showing evidence and completion on all activities as well as writing an exam on this subject.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible, enabling people from less fortunate backgrounds to attend. Either by sponsoring a student, donating food or otherwise.

With all your help we are able to give education to everyone. Happy Teaching everyone!

How do you build real quality awareness within your production team?

During a productivity session with the team at Kraft Heinz in South Africa, I discovered that stepping away from the classroom and returning to the roots of the product made all the difference. Instead of lectures, we explored how puff pastry is made by hand and layer by layer. I used this hands-on process to teach the food science behind the product in a practical, engaging way.

This two-day experience gave the team a deeper understanding of the product, sharpened their attention to detail, and instilled a stronger sense of ownership over quality. By reconnecting with the fundamentals, they brought new purpose and precision to their daily work.
