Norway is consistently recognised as one of the world’s most inclusive and welcoming countries. For filmmakers, cast and crew working here, that contributes to a safe and supportive environment both on and off set.

This Pride Month, we’re highlighting a small selection of internationally acclaimed Norwegian films and series exploring identity, love and belonging. All were filmed in Norway and shaped by the places where these stories unfold. 🌈

Intentional architecture in unexpected places: bold spaces that surprise.

Along selected roads in Norway, natural landscapes are amplified by art, design, and architecture. From unexpected rest stops to dramatic viewpoints and astonishing art installations, these interventions create new perspectives and add contrast to the natural surroundings.

For film productions, they offer compact locations with a unique visual identity, combining striking architecture with direct access to Norway’s cinematic landscapes. 🎬

From the depths of Hjørundfjorden to the top of world cinema — ‘Fjord’ has won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. 🇳🇴🏆

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, ‘Fjord’ was filmed entirely in Norway over 36 days in Hjørundfjorden in spring 2025 — surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Sunnmørsalpene, where mountains rise 1,700 meters straight from the fjord below, surrounded by lush and wild foliage.

The production received support from Western Norway Film Fund, Western Norway Film Commission, Zefyr Media Fund and co-production financing from the Norwegian Film Institute. Norwegian co-producers are Andrea Berentsen Ottmar and Dyveke Bjørkly Graver / Eye Eye Pictures AS.

The film stars Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan alongside Lisa Loven Kongsli, Ellen Dorrit Petersen and Henrikke Lund-Olsen. It tells the story of a Romanian-Norwegian family settling in a remote fjord community, where questions of culture, faith, freedom and family life challenge both neighbours and institutions.

For Cristian Mungiu — Palme d’Or winner for ‘4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days’ — ‘Fjord’ marks both his first English-language feature and his first film shot outside Romania.

This achievement is another powerful example of Norway’s extraordinary filming locations, world-class crews, strong national and regional funding ecosystem, and growing position as an international production destination.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing ‘Fjord’ to life.

Tor Arne Øvrebø has spent decades at the centre of international film and television production in Norway, helping deliver complex shoots across the country. As a producer, line producer and production manager, Tor Arne has contributed to major titles including ‘No Time to Die’, ‘Succession’, ‘Ex Machina’, ‘Black Widow’, and ‘Downsizing’.

The depth of his experience proved invaluable when Tor Arne took on one of the most ambitious projects in Norwegian screen history: producing ‘Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole’, the largest drama series production ever filmed in Norway.

Across all of these projects, Tor Arne’s role has remained consistent: translating complex productions into something that works seamlessly on screen.

A galaxy far, far away… but planet Hoth was actually filmed in Norway! 🪐🇳🇴

The ice planet Hoth from ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ was brought to life in Finse, where snow-covered plains and surrounding glaciers create an otherworldly backdrop. It was here that Han Solo and Luke Skywalker braved subzero temperatures and Imperial walkers.

Finse was, and still is, an excellent filming location. It's located along the scenic Oslo–Bergen railway, which enables film equipment to be transported directly to this remote setting. The same train journey between Norway’s two largest cities offers a stunning ride across the Hardangervidda plateau, stopping right at Finse station.
