Silhouet ble grunnlagt i 1988 av tre dansker med bred erfaring innenfor reklame, ledelse, organisering og salg. Formålet var å kunne tilby jordnære og brukbare metoder for leder­utvikling. It's the holiday season, and it's a time for fun, family, and getting together. 🎁❤️

But it's also easy to get caught up in all the hustle and bustle and
forget about the most important thing:

Spending time with your loved ones.❤️

Think about this:

When you're lying on your deathbed, will you wish you had spent more time at work or more time with the people you love? 🤔

A lot of marriages break down because couples don't feel like they're getting enough attention from each other. 💔

And a lot of kids seek love and attention from other people because they're not getting enough of it at home. 😔

The most important thing in the world is not money, presents, or things. 💰🎁

It's the real care, attention and love which we want to get from other people, specially our family, and our loved ones. 👨👩👧👦

Do your family know that you love and care for them? 🤔

HOW DO YOU COMMUNICATE BETTER AND MORE EFFECTIVELY?

He tells me "I want to become better in communicating 🙏!"

Then he says "What do YOU think about my communication?"

This is a friend I am talking with on the phone. He wants to have some advice.

Of course I can tell him to join our next Effective Communication for Managers which is a 2 days intensive course but I don't.

He is not a client.

So here is how I help him understand his own communication skills and what he should be aware of and what to concentrate upon.

And these tips will also help you in improving your communication skills.

The first question is: Why do we want to communicate?
What is the purpose of anyone communicating?

👉 Very simply it is to get a specific idea over to another person.

Mother tells the child: brush your teeth before going to bed.
The kid: I want to see film and I want to eat more cookies.

Or

Manager asks sales person to contact and close a prospect who just called in.

Sales person: I am going home early today as have to bring my kid to .....

As you see none of the above examples showed any successful communication of an idea.

👉 So it is very important to make sure that the idea is received as we intend it to be recieved.

So in the above example the mother understand that the child has not gotten her idea that he should go and brush teeth before going to bed.

So what should she do to get that communication across?

What do you think?

Imagine a football player wants to communicate the ball into the goal.

Someone stops it, another sends it some where else.

What does the football player does? Stops playing or continue trying in different ways to get the ball in the goal?

Tough? Yes!

Learnable? Yes!

So making sure that your communication is received and understood is very important.

👉 And last but not least as example with the mother or the manager, the purpose of the communication is normally to get someone to 'be willing to do something and do it'.

Of course its easier in the military or in a prison.

The officer orders - the soldiers or prisoners comply or else they are punished for non-compliance.

Ask your friends or family members who were in military or in prison.

But that is not workable at all - as then you have kind of slaves instead of team mates.

No body wants that.

So how do we solve THIS problem?

👉 We should be able to communicate in a way that it motivates people .

About 30% wake up most of the time from the wrong side of the bed and all they intend to do is to show you that YOU ARE WRONG!

So they will not want to understand what you say. It's possible to learn how to deal with them as well!

About 70% are willing and try to understand what you say and are motivated to respond.

Remember that 70% of people will be MOTIVATED when they feel/know that the action is going to be beneficial for them and the people who they love and respect. Or because they feel threatened to lose job or the pocket money.

Those with higher motivations do a better job than those doing the job because of the threat.

So now you have some very basic and fundamental factors about communication which you can review for your self, your employees and your loved ones.

All the above points should be IN if we want to improve out communication skills.

Now look at your last communication with someone.

Did you have an exact idea of what you wanted to say?

Did you make sure your idea was received as you intended it (sending an apple and the other hearing orange)?

What about the motivation?

Did you communicate in a way so the other person felt that doing what you said was going to help them increase their survival, happiness, results or productivity?

If you are anything like I was about 35 years ago, then I assume the answer to majority of the above questions is negative.

So why not start to be more AWARE of the above 3 points when you want to talk to someone?

Mastering Focus: Key to Managerial Success 🚀

In 1996 I was standing facing the wall and not knowing how to get the team to listen to me and do what I need them to do.

This has been one of my biggest and most stressfull experiences in almost 1.5 decades (1991-2006) when I had different levels of managerial work and responsibilities.

My biggest challenge was: getting my employees to do the assigned tasks in order to achieve the planned results.

I thought managing others - get them to listen to me and do what I expect them to do - was one of the most fun (when we made it) and confusing (when we failed) activities I was ever involved in.

When we made it, I felt as though I was on the top of the mountain and proud of self and the team. 🏆

When we failed (did not make the targets in time or in budget) , I could be smaller than the smallest mouse - in fear of consequences. 😖

The ups and downs in my emotions and the stress was quite heavy.

But fortunately alot of water has gone under that bridge ever since 😅

Today, I want to share with you the most essential factor that can significantly enhance your managerial prowers.

Mastering Your Focus 🎯

Imagine: You sit there to do your job..... after few minutes ( I am being very generous) thoughts starts to come up - one thought after the other - marches front of your eyes. 🙄

And while this is happening - you get employees coming and asking questions. 🙋‍♂️

Meanwhile a private call comes in, the phone rings, the emails plings and you can hear some employees are talking about a subject you are interested in. So you try to hear what is being said.

How much work have you managed to do with all the above 'distractions'? 🤔

If your focus could have been compared to a horse, then you would have the wildest horse any one could ever master. 🌦🌩🌪

Good or bad news - you are not alone!

This I CAN guarantee you!

After years of working with managers I can tell you that only a super small percent of super successful ones are able to control their focus.

Majority have similar challenges as me, probably you and 98% of the rest of people on Earth!

But fortunately there is hope:)

There is a new technology on how to learn to get your own focus under your own control. 🚀🎯

And also - the best part - how to get the focus of another as well - so they are actually listening to you!

(At Silhouet, we teach this technology under the heading of 'Effective Communication for Leaders')

But what can you do until then?

Here is a small excercise:

Next time you talk to someone - an employee or a subcontractor - who you want them to do something, look and observe their eyes and their focus.

How long is their focus with you?

How long is your focus on them?

Meaning - how long are they able to actually have their intention on you - listening to you.

And how many seconds or minutes it takes before your focus goes away and you start thinking about other things when talking to them?

Now that you know it, you can try to control your focus a little longer.

Another excercise:

Decide you are going to deal with some project when you are at your office.

Start your start-watch.

As soon as your attention or focus is distracted from what you were doing (on the project) - then you stop the stop watch.

You will be amazed how fast the focus is being distracted and how much time is being wasted every day.

Interesting!

So, there you have it - the main pillar of managerial success: focus!

With controlled focus you win and without controlled focus you lose and have stress, sleepless nights and ulcer.
