Vi gleder oss til å høre finalistene fortelle om forskningen sin, som spenner alt fra anvendt matematikk, fluidmekanikk, nevrovitenskap og kjemi til spørsmål om ondskap, nasjonalisme og Odd Nordstoga.

📣 Exciting news 📣

CAS and seven Institutes for Advanced Study in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden will launch a new trans-Nordic fellowship programme on health and sustainability. This initiative is a structured, interdisciplinary training and retention programme for early-career researchers

The programme, which the Novo Nordisk Foundation has supported with DKK 48.3 million over the next six years, will offer 20 two-year fellowships focused on innovative solutions to challenges within health and sustainability.

The programme brings together eight Nordic partner institutions:
Four main partners:
- Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) - Aarhus University, Denmark
- Centre for Advanced Study (CAS) at The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, Norway
- Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies, Finland
- Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS), Sweden

Four associated partners:
- Danish Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS), Denmark
- Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies - Lund University, Sweden
- Tampere Institute for Advanced Study, Finland
- Turku Institute for Advanced Studies, Finland

We very much look forward to launching this ambitious new programme in close collaboration with our Nordic partners.

The Young CAS Grant offers you the opportunity to assemble your ideal international team, lead your own research project, and advance both your research field and career.

As a Young CAs PI you'll receive funding, office space, and administrative support to pursue excellent basic, curiosity-driven research in any field.

We are pleased to announce that Paul Acker (NTNU - Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet) and Nils Hallvard Korsvoll (UiA - Universitetet i Agder) have been selected as the new Young CAS Principal Investigators for the 2026-2028 period!

🔬 Paul Acker's project — Towards a Theory of Evolutionary Potential under Extreme Events (TEPEE) — aims to develop a framework and theory to determine whether, and under what conditions, extreme weather events such as heatwaves and storms reshape evolutionary potential.

📖 Nils Hallvard Korsvoll's project — The Modern Life of Manuscripts: Modelling a New Best Practice in Philology (MLM) — seek to establish a next methodological step and a new best practice by introducing the modern location(s) and movement(s) of manuscripts in philology and historical study.

Svenn-Erik Mamelund, who led the CAS project 'Social Science Meets Biology' in 2022/2023, shares his reflections in Forskerforum on how diversity alone doesn’t automatically advance the research frontier. He highlights CAS as an example of a research environment that sought to combine expertise with diverse perspectives.

CAS is now welcoming applications from Norwegian institutions to become partners!

As a CAS partner, researchers from your institution can apply as P*s to lead 1- or 2-year projects through our CAS Research Grant and Young CAS Grant programmes. Partners also gain access to opportunities such as the Hernes–CAS Mobility Grant and short-term fellowships.

🗓️ Applications deadline: 31 January 2026

CAS currently has a network of 18 Norwegian partner institutions, including universities, university colleges, and research institutes.
