Bright Spots ✨
In a world marked by unrest and uncertainty, we believe in the power of small moments of light - literally and figuratively. This week, we begin our 'Visit Norway' series, where we share lighting design projects that inspire, uplift, and connect us across borders - one place a day, one light at a time.
Espenes Rest Stop offers a new scenic pause where architecture meets nature with breathtaking views of the fjord and mountains. Built entirely from hand-shaped stainless steel, this rest stop was designed by Code Arkitektur as part of the Norwegian Scenic Routes – a cultural initiative that transforms remote landscapes into meaningful destinations through architecture.
Our lighting concept amplifies the sculptural form through contrasts of warm and cool tones. Inspired by the surrounding environment, we drew from the cool moonlight touching mountain peaks and glaciers, contrasted with the soft warmth of human presence.
The lighting is fully integrated into the architecture: no visible fixtures on the walls, no lighting of the parking area – just carefully placed luminance that interacts with form and material. The result is a quiet landmark after dark, one that both reveals and respects the landscape.
