Grapes in the Coachella Valley.

Desert Control has applied Liquid Natural Clay to a 2-acre grape block in California’s Coachella Valley, one of the state’s earliest harvest regions, and one of its driest.

The soils here are sandy. Water and nutrients move straight past the root zone. LNC binds to the sand particles and holds both where the vine can reach them.

The trial is tracking:
Irrigation water applied vs. the grower’s standard practice
Soil moisture in the root zone
Yield and fruit quality at harvest

In California's Central Valley, water is the difference between a harvest and a loss.
We recently completed a pilot bringing Liquid Natural Clay (LNC) to a 10-acre apricot orchard in Kettleman City, one of the most water-stressed farming regions in the United States.
What makes this one worth sharing: LNC goes in straight through the grower's existing irrigation system. No new equipment, no disruption to daily operations. In the root zone, the clay helps sandy soil hold on to water and nutrients where the trees can actually use them.
For a permanent crop like apricots, that root-zone efficiency compounds season after season.
Pilots like this are how we prove it, acre by acre and crop by crop, that healthier soil and smarter water use go hand in hand.

New field trial results confirm the impact of Liquid Natural Clay. 🌱
In the Salinas Valley, LNC delivered a ~30% increase in romaine lettuce yield and a 33% improvement in water-use efficiency compared to untreated plots. These gains were achieved under identical irrigation, with no changes to standard farming practices.
A subsequent trial across more than 5 acres reinforced the findings, showing a 34% increase in yield.
What makes these results significant is where they occurred: in sandy soil (64% sand content) and in a row crop, both outside our traditional area of focus. This suggests our addressable market may be considerably larger than previously anticipated.

Our next-generation production unit just completed its first commercial-scale field application: 12 acres of Medjool date palms in Somerton, Arizona. 🌴

This is the milestone we've been building toward — the transition from prototype development to full commercial production.

The new unit is engineered for high-capacity output in demanding environments, and Somerton delivered exactly that: hot, arid, sandy conditions. It performed to specification, applying Liquid Natural Clay (LNC) at a pace that dramatically outperforms our earlier equipment.

"Having our next-generation production unit in the field and performing at commercial scale are two of the most important milestones on our path to scaling Desert Control," says CEO James Thomas.

This unit is now our baseline for future builds, with additional units planned as we expand delivery capability across the American Southwest.

Golf courses in the region face a hard reality: irrigation is often their single largest operating cost, and water prices keep climbing. Some courses spend upwards of $1 million a year just to keep turf alive.

It’s one of the first questions growers raise — and a fair one. The answer is no.

Liquid Natural Clay is screen-filtered on the way in and again on the way out, with the irrigation lines flushed post-application to maintain clean, unobstructed flow. That process is exactly what’s pictured here — at a cherry orchard pilot in Kern County, California.

We integrated with the orchard’s existing irrigation infrastructure within 15 minutes of arriving on site. With the local water district reducing allocations for 2027, this grower is evaluating LNC as a means to improve water-use efficiency across their cherry crop. 🍒

They're completing system integration and performance testing ahead of the first field operations.

Wine grapes are one of the most water-intensive crops in the world. And remarkably, no one can tell you exactly how water-intensive which, for an industry already under pressure, is the real problem.

Approximately 30 gallons water are necessary to produce a single glass of wine The overwhelming majority of it is irrigation spent in the soil, long before a grape is ever harvested.

In California, much of the state's wine grape production sits in its most water-stressed regions As water grows scarcer and more expensive, the efficiency of every drop moves from the sustainability report to the balance sheet.

Healthy soil, especially in the root zone, is crucial for success That is the soil layer where LNC works.
