Rasuwa Flood 2026 | Satellite-Based Assessment & Monitoring
The 26 August flood hit communities along the Rasuwa and Trishuli corridor hard. With clouds and steep terrain limiting access, Antarikchya Pratisthan Nepal (APN) turned to satellite data to help understand what happened and what remains at risk.
What the imagery shows:
• An ice-rock mass collapse high in the mountains was identified as the origin, and the collapsed area was also picked up in SAR imagery.
• Thousands of people and buildings were affected in the municipalities along the Trishuli, with Bidur, Gosaikunda, Benighat Rorang and Uttargaya among the hardest hit.
• Three barrier lakes formed along the debris path, at different elevations. Two have since drained, and the third is still being watched.
Swipe through to see the origin, the impact and the lake monitoring timeline.
This work was only possible because satellites operators, agencies, drone teams and Ground teams shared their data and images when it mattered.
Thank you.
