Today, we remember. 🕯️

13 days since the floods took so much from so many - homes, roads, entire communities, people who should still be here. This was not an isolated tragedy. Intensifying monsoons, melting glaciers, and collapsing glacial lakes are making disasters like this more frequent and more violent across the Himalayas. Nepal contributes almost nothing to global emissions - and is paying some of the highest costs of a crisis it did not create.

The earth is one shared place. Nothing that happens in one corner of it stays there. It moves through rivers, through air, through weather, until it reaches someone else's doorstep. Looking away does not protect anyone. It only delays the reckoning.

The communities bearing the heaviest cost of this crisis will face it again. Making them stronger is not charity. It is a shared responsibility.

Today we remember them. We hold space for every family still searching, still hoping, still waiting for word.

We stand with every family carrying this loss.

विद्युतीय चार पाङ्ग्रे गाडी प्राविधिक तालिमको हात सफाई (व्यावहारिक) सत्रमा हाम्रा महिला तालिमार्थीहरूले चार पांग्रे गाडी चलाउने सीप सिकिरहेका छन्, सुरुमा हात अस्थिर र मन अलिकति आत्तिएको भए पनि उनीहरू रोकिएनन्। बाटोमा केही चालकहरूले महिलाहरूलाई आत्मविश्वासका साथ गाडी चलाइरहेको देख्दा फेरि-फेरि फर्केर हेरे। सायद त्यही नै “new normal” हो जो एलोईले सिर्जना गर्न चाहन्छौं।

7 years ago today, we disbursed our very first token loan. No office, not really a full proof plan either - just two people walking to places where we thought this system could help, two people who believed in this and a lot of conversations with women who trusted us before we’d really proven anything.
Somewhere between then and now, we crossed a 99.2% repayment rate. Every time we look at that number we’re kind of amazed by it honestly. It’s not us - it’s every woman who showed up, made her payments, and the team who joined us in this journey and proving what we believed from day one.

To 2019, to today, and to everything still ahead 💛💚🤞🏾
