Cherry Rhodochrosite
Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral with chemical composition MnCO3. In its (rare) pure form, it is typically a rose-red color, but impure specimens can be shades of pink to pale brown. It streaks white, and its Mohs hardness varies between 3.5 and 4. Its specific gravity is between 3.5 and 3.7. It crystallizes in the trigonal system, and cleaves with rhombohedral carbonate cleavage in three directions. Crystal twinning often is present. It is transparent to translucent with refractive indices of nω=1.814 to 1.816, nε=1.596 to 1.598. It is often confused with the manganese silicate, rhodonite, but is distinctly softer. It is officially listed as one of the National symbols of Argentina.

Describing some rare Gemstones
"Poudretteite"
Poudretteite is an extremely rare mineral and gemstone that was first discovered as minute crystals in Mont St. Hilaire , Quebec , Canada , during the 1960s
Poudretteite was originally described in 1987 as minute crystals of no gemological interest at Mont St. Hilaire; the samples had been collected in the 1960’s.
In 2000, rough was discovered in the Pain Pyit district, Mogok, Myanmar that cut a 3ct stone that was later determined to be poudretteite. As of 2004, 10 examples of poudretteite had been identified amoung Mogok stones, the largest being a 22ct crystal that was cut into a 9.4ct gem.
Facet grade Poudretteite is also found in Mogok, Burma. As of mid-2007, about 30 small pieces of rough have been recovered. Most produce small gems, and clean stones weighing in excess of 1 carat remain elusive. Some gems are pink in tone, but these also are not common.
Physical Properties of Poudretteite;
Mohs Hardness: 5
Specific Gravity: 2.51 to 2.53
Optical Properties of Poudretteite;
Refractive Index: 1.511 to 1.532

Optical Character: Uniaxial/+
Birefringence: 0.021
Pleochroism Strong: purple-pink/colourless to brownish
Colour;
Colour (General): Violet, pink, colourless
Transparency: Transparent

Crystallography of Poudretteite;
Crystal System: Hexagonal
Habit: Roughly equant barrel-shaped prismatic crystals

Geological Environment:
Where found: Poudrettite is found in marble xenoliths
within nepheline syenite breccias in an intrusive alkalic gabbro-syenite complex.

Clarity enhancement of gemstones using oils to fill and hide cracks has been documented dating back well over 1,000 years. As long as these enhancements are properly disclosed along the supply chain with instructions for how to care for such enhanced gems, there is nothing unethical about these modifications.

This example demonstrates the dramatic improvement in perceived clarity after introducing oil into a badly fractured natural emerald.
