In most commercial environments, packaging failures don’t happen because the material itself is “bad”.

They happen because the packaging:
• isn’t consistent from batch to batch
• doesn’t suit real workflows
• creates extra handling or rework
• looks fine on paper, but fails under pressure

When packaging works, no one notices it.

It simply fits the process, every time.

When it doesn’t, the cost shows up in wasted time, damaged goods, and frustrated teams — not just on an invoice.

Good packaging should disappear into the operation, not become another problem to manage.

Where do packaging problems usually show up for you — in theory, or in practice?

See our selection of landfill-biodegradable plastic packaging products including mailing bags, packaging tape, pallets caps, shipping envelopes and more. Biowrap Eco-friendly products that reduce waste without compromising quality for a greener and more sustainable future.

You’ve heard us talk about quality silage and bale wrap — but what actually makes high-performance agricultural wrap so effective? And why do farmers choose Biowrap for both their silage and baleage?
Here’s the simplified science behind how quality wrap protects your feed:

1. Total Oxygen Protection: Whether you’re wrapping silage or baleage, oxygen is the enemy of good fermentation. Biowrap is engineered with multiple barrier layers designed to keep oxygen out — even under tension. This helps reduce spoilage, prevent mould growth, and support consistent fermentation.
2. Consistent Stretch and Seal: High-quality wrap isn’t just strong — it stretches in a controlled, predictable way. Biowrap maintains even stretch across both round and square bales, creating a tight, uniform seal with no weak points or loose folds. This helps ensure reliable protection throughout the season.
3. Designed for New Zealand Conditions: As the season progresses, crops can become drier and more fibrous, and bird pressure increases. Biowrap’s outer layer is formulated for superior puncture resistance and UV stability — helping both silage and bale wrap hold up in New Zealand’s tough outdoor conditions right through to feed-out.
4. Protects the Bale – Does Not Break Down on the Bale: A key concern for farmers is whether biodegradable wrap weakens during use. Biowrap’s landfill-biodegradable technology activates only in anaerobic, microbe-rich landfill conditions. It does not degrade, soften, or break down while wrapped around your silage or baleage. Farmers get the same high-strength performance as traditional wrap — with an environmental benefit at end of life.
5. Better Feed Quality Across Silage and Baleage: When wrap delivers a strong seal, multiple barrier layers, and controlled stretch, you get:
• Better fermentation
• Lower spoilage
• More consistent bale density
• Less feed loss
• Improved outcomes for your stock

Whether you’re wrapping early-season silage or late-season baleage, choosing the right wrap makes a measurable difference in feed protection and overall results.

You've heard that Biowrap is landfill-biodegradable, but how does it actually work? It's not magic, it's innovative science designed for real-world impact!

At the heart of Biowrap's technology is an organic additive integrated directly into the plastic during manufacturing. This isn't something that makes the plastic fall apart prematurely on your shelf – quite the opposite!

Here's the simplified science:
1. Attracting the Tiny Workers: Once Biowrap plastic is disposed of in a modern, microbe-rich landfill environment (where oxygen is limited, creating anaerobic conditions), our special additive begins to attract naturally occurring microorganisms.

2. A Microbial Feast: These tiny microbes "recognize" the additive as a food source. As they consume it, they secrete enzymes that break down the long molecular chains of the plastic itself.

3. Full Transformation: This process allows the microbes to continue digesting the plastic, completely converting it into natural by-products: biogas (which can be captured for renewable energy) and humus (a natural, soil-enriching organic matter).

4. No Microplastics: Crucially, this is a full biodegradation process. Unlike other "degradable" plastics that simply fragment into smaller pieces, Biowrap leaves behind no harmful microplastic residues.
It's a smart, targeted approach that leverages nature's own processes to turn plastic waste into valuable resources, working within the systems we have.

Validating Our Claims: The Science Behind Biowrap's Certifications

At Biowrap, we know that when it comes to "green" claims, seeing is believing. That's why our commitment to landfill biodegradation isn't just a promise – it's backed by rigorous, independent scientific validation!
We take the guesswork out of choosing sustainable plastics by ensuring our technology stands up to the toughest tests.

Here's how we validate our claims:
• Third-Party Lab Testing: Our products undergo strict testing by independent laboratories. This means unbiased experts verify that our landfill-biodegradable plastics perform exactly as we say they do.
• Adherence to Global Standards: We specifically look to international benchmarks like ASTM D5511. This crucial test measures the carbon released as biogas from the plastic when it's in anaerobic conditions – precisely simulating a modern landfill environment. It's how we prove our plastics truly break down, leaving no microplastic behind.
• USFDA Compliance: For food contact applications, Biowrap's additive has achieved USFDA compliance. This is a significant safety and trust point, ensuring our products are safe for use where food is involved, without compromising quality or safety.

These certifications aren't just badges; they're proof of our dedication to providing a genuinely effective and responsible solution for plastic waste. When you choose Biowrap, you're choosing verified, science-backed sustainability.

Researchers have identified a fungus with a remarkable appetite for plastic, capable of degrading it at an incredible speed.

Discovered on a waste site in Pakistan, Aspergillus tubingensis can decompose polyurethane, one of the world's most resilient plastics, in a matter of weeks—a process that would naturally take centuries.

How does it achieve this? The fungus releases enzymes that attack and break the chemical bonds holding the plastic together. As the plastic disintegrates, the fungus consumes the fragments, transforming them into simple, harmless substances. This entire process occurs on the plastic's surface, eliminating the need for pre-processing like shredding.

This method is called mycoremediation, the use of fungi to clean up pollution. But Aspergillus tubingensis isn't alone in this ability. A second species, Pestalotiopsis microspora, found in the Amazon, can live on a diet of plastic alone, even without oxygen. This makes it a promising candidate for tackling waste in landfills and the deep ocean.

Scientists are now exploring ways to harness these powerful enzymes on a large scale through technologies like bioreactors, specialized coatings, and biodegradable sprays. The ultimate ambition is to develop an affordable, nature-based solution to the global plastic problem that operates on a timescale of weeks instead of centuries.

Navigating the world of "eco-friendly" plastics can be confusing! There are a lot of terms thrown around, and it's easy to misunderstand what they truly mean for our planet. Let's bust some common myths and clarify why Biowrap offers a truly smart solution.

Myth 1: All "biodegradable" plastics are the same.
Fact: Not all "biodegradable" plastics break down in the same way or in all environments. Some plastics labelled "biodegradable" can actually just fragment into harmful microplastics, or they require very specific industrial composting conditions that aren't widely available.

Myth 2: Compostable plastics always break down, no matter where they end up.
Fact: While compostable plastics are designed to break down, they often need high heat and oxygen (found in industrial composting facilities) to do so effectively. If they end up in a typical landfill, they might not break down at all and can even contaminate recycling streams.

Myth 3: All sustainable plastics perform differently than traditional plastics.
Fact: Many sustainable alternatives can compromise on performance. However, Biowrap is engineered to offer the same strength, durability, and unlimited shelf life as traditional plastics, ensuring you don't have to sacrifice quality for sustainability.

Myth 4: If it's "eco-friendly," I don't need to worry about recycling it.
Fact: Recycling is still incredibly important for reducing waste and conserving resources. Even with Biowrap's advanced biodegradation, we always encourage recycling where facilities exist, as our products maintain their original quality and can re-enter the circular economy.

Myth 5: Landfills are just bad, and nothing good comes from them.
Fact: While waste reduction is paramount, modern landfills are increasingly equipped to capture biogas produced during decomposition.

How Biowrap busts these myths: Our landfill-biodegradable technology uses a unique organic additive that actively attracts microbes in a modern landfill. This ensures our plastics truly break down into natural substances without creating microplastics. This process also allows for biogas capture, turning waste into renewable energy. Plus, our products are still recyclable where facilities exist.

The Invisible Threat: Why Microplastics Matter & How Biowrap Helps

We've all heard about microplastics, but what exactly are they, and why should we be concerned? These tiny plastic fragments, smaller than a grain of rice, pose a massive problem for our planet's health. They contaminate our oceans, soil, and even the air we breathe. Worse still, they're entering our food chains, with potential impacts on human health.

Why are microplastics such a concern?
• Environmental Contamination: They are ubiquitous, found from the deepest oceans to remote mountain tops, accumulating in ecosystems and harming wildlife through ingestion and entanglement.
• Potential Health Risks: Research is ongoing, but microplastics have been detected in various human tissues and organs, including blood, lungs, and even placentas. Concerns are growing about their potential to cause inflammation, oxidative stress, and disrupt bodily functions.
• Long-Term Persistence: Unlike larger plastics that break down into smaller pieces, microplastics themselves are highly persistent and can linger in the environment for centuries.

Many degradable plastics break down into these very microplastics, simply swapping one problem for another. But here's where Biowrap is different!

Our landfill-biodegradable technology is designed to break down completely, converting into natural materials and biogas. This means NO microplastics are left behind in the environment during the biodegradation process. The unique organic additive in Biowrap attracts microbes in a modern landfill, which then consume and fully break down the plastic's molecular structure.

We believe in true solutions, not just moving the problem around. Choose Biowrap for a future free from invisible plastic threats.
