Autumn Isn’t About the Finish Line

Most farmers think autumn is about getting to the end of the season.
It’s not.
It’s about setting up next season — while still making milk.
Right now you’re balancing three things:
✔ Days in milk
✔ Cow condition (BCS)
✔ Pasture cover
Push one too hard… and you’ll pay for it later.
The farms that get this right:
– Hold condition going into winter
– Hit pasture targets at dry-off
– Walk into spring with options, not pressure
The key?
Small decisions, made early.
Because once condition slips or cover drops…
it’s expensive to fix.

As we near the end of calving and begin to shift our attention to mating. Now is the critical time to assess your herd’s body condition score (BCS).
Even small shifts in condition can make a big difference to:
• Submission rates – cows in the right condition cycle earlier and more strongly.
• 6-week in-calf rate – well-conditioned cows get in calf faster.
• Empty rates – every extra empty costs profit at the end of the season.

MilkMaP Consulting offers independent, on-farm BCS services that give you a clear, accurate picture of your herd’s condition—so you can make confident decisions around feeding and management before mating kicks off.
With our support, you’ll be able to:
• Identify at-risk cows early
• Adjust feeding to target condition gains/losses
• Optimise reproduction performance and protect profitability

Get in touch now to lock in a pre-mating BCS session.
