WINTER FEEDING: ARE YOU ADDING CONDITION AT THE RIGHT TIME?
One of the biggest mistakes we see is cows and heifers gaining condition too late in winter.
The result?

❌ Larger calves
❌ More calving difficulty
❌ Higher metabolic risk
❌ A tougher start to lactation

The smarter approach is simple:
✔ Build condition early in winter
✔ Hit BCS targets by late June/early July
✔ Feed to maintenance after targets are achieved
✔ Lift protein levels as calving approaches
✔ Transition cows off winter crops gradually

For fodder beet-fed cows, the transition is especially important. The rumen needs time to adapt from a sugar-based diet back to fibre digestion before calving.
