Hands-on Quarry Manager wanted
Mt Hutt Lime is looking for an experienced A or B Grade Quarry Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our small, high-production quarry in Canterbury.
This is a hands-on management and operating role suited to someone who enjoys being on the quarry floor, leading a small team, operating equipment and making sure production and safety targets are met.
You will have overall responsibility for health and safety, quarry compliance, production and the effective day-to-day running of the site.
The role
You will be responsible for:
Leading and maintaining a strong health and safety culture across the quarry.
Ensuring the quarry operates safely, efficiently and in accordance with all relevant requirements.
Managing day-to-day quarry production and meeting production targets.
Supervising and working alongside a small, capable team.
Operating and maintaining mobile plant and quarry equipment as required.
Monitoring quarry operations, stockpiles, quality and production.
Coordinating maintenance and ensuring plant and equipment are kept in good working order.
Managing contractors and site activities where required.
Completing required quarry records, inspections and reporting.
Identifying and addressing hazards, risks and opportunities to improve the operation.
Taking a practical, hands-on approach to problem solving and keeping production moving.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
Holds an A or B Grade Quarry Manager Certificate of Competence, or has the experience and capability to obtain the appropriate certificate.
Has solid experience working in a quarrying or extractive industry environment.
Has a strong understanding of quarry health and safety and compliance requirements.
Is confident operating heavy mobile plant and getting involved in the practical side of the operation.
Can help lead a small team and is comfortable taking responsibility.
Is mechanically minded and able to identify and deal with operational issues.
Is organised, reliable and able to work independently.
Takes pride in running a clean, safe and productive site.
Has a “hands-on” attitude and is prepared to get stuck in when required.
