Jung's wisdom applies to organisations.

⚡ work smarter

With over 15 years of experience working in complex organisations with multi-stakeholder environments, I have developed a deep understanding of the challenges leaders and teams face. My genuine care for people and commitment to building connections sets me apart. I prioritise understanding clients' unique circumstances and needs before providing tailored advice and solutions. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, I take the time to connect with individuals and businesses on a personal level, creating an environment of trust and collaboration. In 2020, I was awarded as one of the top 50 Chief Information Officers in New Zealand and won hackathon tech-innovations awards in 2018 & 2019. I published an Amazon Bestseller book, Power Up – How to Improve Productivity and Innovation, in early 2022. It outlines the ways to achieve greater alignment in organisational decisions and actions.

I have always been drawn to the difference between authority and influence.

Authority can tell people what to do.
But influence is what helps them understand why it matters, and what it means in practice.

That distinction matters to me because I have seen too many leaders mistake compliance for alignment. The message is delivered. People nod. The work continues. And yet something essential is missing.

Usually, it is not effort.
It is not intelligence.
It is not even intent.

It is clarity.

When communication is strong, people do more than hear the message. They can carry it. They can translate it into action when conditions shift, when the leader is not present, when the pressure rises.

That is why I wrote this piece. Because leadership is not just about being heard. It is about helping people see the work clearly enough to move with conviction.

If that idea resonates, I have put the full article here

How to Align Hearts Minds and Action Through Better Communication

I have always been interested in what we teach people to value in leadership.

For a long time, the lesson was simple enough to be misleading: if the leader is visible, they are effective. If they are present, they are accountable. If they are in the room, they are leading.

But I have seen enough to know that this equation does not always hold.

Some of the most useful leadership I have done has not been measured by how often I was physically there. It has been measured by whether the structure held. Whether decisions were clear. Whether people knew what they owned. Whether the work kept moving without confusion.

That is why I care about fractional leadership.

It asks us to stop confusing hours with value. It asks organisations to build with more intention, and professionals to develop outcome literacy early.

Not just task completion. Not just visibility. Actual contribution.

That shift matters to me because it changes what people believe leadership is supposed to look like. And when we change that belief, we change what becomes possible.

If leaders were like the pillars of a house. The house still needs pillars. It just does not need every pillar to be the same size.

Here is the link to my article on the matter: https://open.substack.com/pub/whycy/p/fractional-leadership-is-a-pillar?r=2i8wfc&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

I left the Ice House Ignite Summit feeling really grateful for the reminder that business is not just about growth — it’s about awareness, good judgement and the courage to keep going.

As business owners, we carry a lot. We make decisions every day that affect our people, our customers, and our future. Some of those decisions are exciting, but many are hard, uncertain, and deeply personal. That’s why the conversation around awareness really stayed with me.

It reminded me that it’s not enough to simply “know” what’s going on. We need to be honest with ourselves, willing to step back, and open to reality checks that help us make better decisions. That kind of clarity is often what separates businesses that drift from businesses that move forward with purpose.

I was especially inspired by the stories of Puro and Halter. What stood out to me was not just their success, but the thoughtfulness behind their decisions — the partnerships they built, the focus they kept, and the persistence they showed when the path wasn’t simple. That felt very real to me.

For me, the biggest takeaway was this: business owners don’t need to have all the answers. But we do need to keep learning, keep listening, and keep making decisions with both heart and discipline.

A really meaningful day, and one that left me thinking about the kind of leadership that helps people and businesses grow in a more grounded way.

At the icehouse summit today.

Love the bit about a Team of champions versus Championship team, doing it together is the success formula.

Other than the technical guidance, it's always about personal growth and development together.

Reflecting what happened 111 years ago and the world we are in today.

The world order in political power is evolving, the resources on the planet is limited and human nature itself is complicated.

I use the word complicated because the truth is there is no simple black and white answers in human behaviour.

Three very complex systems interacting, creating a dynamic of moving scenarios.

These core systems have not change and will never change in our would. It's a matter of time.

That's why I admire the work of ancient philosophers who have structured way to observe changes.

To stay grounded and stay tuned with our inner wisdom.

To connect with the evolving change and navigate our position in it.

To remember the teaching and lesson learnt. We can honour our intelligence and learn from the past.

Lest we forget

I deeply resonate with the work of Gilbert Enoka ONZM.

From a grassroots background, there were a lot of similarities of the thought process described in the book, particularly in his early career.

It's often the case when rising above the chaos, when there is no one to ask and when the world seems to be against you, it is our personal decision and the opinion of ourselves that matters.

The underlying decision dictates the outcome.

What are the known success factors?

Mindset and character as Enoka puts.

It's not just about success mindset, to me, a growth mindset is the biggest asset anyone can have that'll give them the edge.

Learning from the great has always got me to a higher place. I might not have lived their lives but I extract the essence of the greatness for my use. It's a pattern since my childhood and this habit has continued to benefit my work to date.

There is no shortage of crises and noises. It is important to take a moment to stay grounded, reflect and identify the possibilities going forward.

It's just human to feel the psychological impact. Once the initial shock is felt, check in with the facts, put things in perspective and continue to work with awareness and agility.

And that's the work of a great leader.

Innovative ideas generation 💡

I have come across quite a number of people and clients over time asking,'what's that one idea to pursue?'

These are the steps

💡If you are fixated on a particular tech or material, take the 2 days to write down 100 ideas on the potential applications.

💡 Look at your list and see if there are any ideas that stand out

💡Is there anything that shruck a connection to your heart? What is it and why?

💡Take the idea to validate with target market

💡Fail fast and move on

All of above are easy to say but not easy to do well. That's why this morning it was a spectacular moments when ideas click in conversation with a client! In psychology we usually called it an 'aha moment'.

I recall many 'aha moments' with innovation and work teams throughout my career. The results of those teams and projects were spectacular. It took me quite sometime to realise it was the unique difference.

Have you had your aha moments in business? I'd love to hear and help you get that implement.
