Rodent protection isn’t just putting a bait station somewhere outside and forgetting about it.

Stations need to be checked, serviced and positioned where rodents are actually travelling. This one is being topped up and placed along an active travel route identified around the property.

🐜 Ever wondered how big a flea actually is?

That tiny brown speck beside the 20-cent coin is a flea.

Easy to miss. Not so easy to ignore once it starts jumping. 😅

If you find one, don't panic and don't immediately start spraying everything in sight. Start with identification. Once you're confident you're dealing with fleas: vacuum carpets, edges, underneath furniture and other harbourage areas; address pets with appropriate veterinary flea control where relevant; and monitor where activity is occurring.

DIY treatment can work too, but follow the product label carefully. More pesticide doesn't automatically mean better control, and flea pupae can remain protected while developing, so seeing some fleas afterwards doesn't necessarily mean treatment has failed.

The important part is treating the flea life cycle and environment, not just killing the flea you happened to catch.

He sprayed the ants. They moved house. 😂🐜

It started with a small ant trail in the kitchen.

Spray. Gone. ✅

Three days later… ants in the living room.
Spray again. Gone. ✅

Then they appeared near the shower and laundry.

At this point, the ants were basically giving him a tour of his own house. 😂

So he called Billy.

Instead of spraying again, I traced the active ants outside, found their travel routes and introduced bait. They immediately started feeding.

Today, I deliberately DIDN’T spray.

Why? Killing the ants you can see doesn't necessarily control the colony behind them. Sometimes the smarter move is to let the workers take the bait back and do some of the work for us.

Don’t just fight the ants you see. Manage where they’re coming from. 🐜

Found the active ant trail and they immediately started feeding on the bait. Instead of spraying the visible ants, I’m letting them carry the treatment back through the colony first.

Once activity reduces, I’ll reassess before deciding if an exterior barrier treatment is needed.

That’s ant management not just ant spraying.

Spring is a good time to check your rodent bait stations before activity builds again. Make sure the bait is still present and usable, the station is secure, and it’s positioned along an active travel route not just where it’s convenient.

DIY can save money, but it only works well if you understand the product, check it regularly and follow the label. Good rodent control is about monitoring, placement and prevention, not just putting bait down and forgetting about it.

Spring is here, and rodent activity can start changing as rats and mice look for secure shelter, food and suitable nesting areas for the breeding season.

If you’ve heard scratching in the roof, walls or under the house, now is a good time to deal with it before the activity becomes established.
