🔥🌲 How can you maintain the integrity of a fire separation?

Services, structural beams and other features are on a fire separation may conflict with the integrity of the FRR. It can limit the effectiveness to contain the spread of smoke / fire in the firecell.

If standardise tested passive fire seals are out of the equation and moving or removing the item is not an option. The next best practical step is to extend the firecell beyond the item.

This can be done by using fire rated building substrates. The most common technique is to frame and line around the services until the fire separation is complete.

Further plastering and other seals may be required, but if in doubt box it out.

🔥🌲”Work & Facts From Around The Traps”

The fire engineer will work in with the design team to provide a fire report outlining fire strategies suited for the proposed building.

Fire-cells along with other important fire safety specifications must be clearly stated. Any key personnel working on the project should read and understand the fire report to be aware of the performances and limitations of the building.

The fire engineer will conduct fire risk assessments during the construction phase. Their task is to use the consented plans and complete inspection reports based on all fire related features and systems throughout the building. These inspections are commonly at Preline, Postline, sign off and anything in between that require urgent advice.

To complete their scope of signing off a building, a fire engineer collates all documents then submits evidence to council.

At FIRETREE we are fortunate to have Tom assist with projects that require his expertise.

🔥🌲”Work & Facts From Around The Traps”

Intumescent sealants must be applied to the correct depth and width to comply with the manufacturers specifications.

If this is not achieved the sealant may experience gaps when curing resulting in weak points where smoke can escape and spread throughout the building.

When exposed to fire the sealant will expand and fill any gaps / voids left from combustible materials. In this case the cables.

If there is not enough sealant. The performance of the product will be compromised and fail earlier than expected in a fire.
