Biosecurity in action!
A big shoutout to the eagle-eyed straddle driver at Lyttelton Port who recently spotted a suspicious caterpillar on a container arriving from Australia. 🚢🐛

The pest was identified as a white cedar moth (Leptocneria reducta) — common across Australia but not found in New Zealand. Not only can this moth harm native white cedar trees, but its hairs can cause allergic reactions in humans.

👏🏽 This is exactly the kind of vigilance we want to see during Biosecurity Awareness Month — and all year round! Early detection and reporting like this protect our ecosystems, our economy, and our way of life.

Looking Back on Little Heart Day at IVS ❤️

Last week, we came together to celebrate Little Heart Day, a cause dedicated to supporting children born with congenital heart conditions. With over 12 babies born each week in New Zealand with a heart defect, this day holds special meaning - especially for one of our own, whose family has been directly impacted by the amazing work of Heart Kids NZ.

To show our support, we wore red, enjoyed a shared lunch, and held a raffle fundraiser to help give back. Thanks to generous donations, we were able to raise funds for Heart Kids NZ, contributing to the vital support they provide to families navigating congenital heart disease.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated - your kindness and generosity made a real difference! 💙

Reflecting on International Forest Day at IVS 🌿

Last week, our team came together to celebrate International Forest Day. As part of our commitment to protecting New Zealand’s natural environment, we planted a Kowhai tree onsite - a small but meaningful step in giving back to our native forests.

It was fantastic to see our staff rallying around to help, with our CEO, Raewyn, leading the way, digging in (literally!) alongside the team. This initiative is a reminder that even small actions can make a difference in preserving our unique biodiversity. 🌱🌎

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved - we loved seeing the enthusiasm and teamwork in action! Let’s continue to look after our forests, one tree at a time.

Happy International Forest Day! 🌿

Did you know that New Zealand’s native forests cover around 24% of the country, providing a home to unique wildlife and playing a crucial role in absorbing carbon and protecting biodiversity? Our forests are home to incredible native trees like the Kauri, Rimu, and Kowhai, which not only support ecosystems but also have deep cultural significance in Aotearoa.

At IVS, we’re doing our part to support forest regeneration! 🌱

🌳 We’re planting a Kowhai tree onsite behind our office to contribute to reforestation efforts.
🌱 Want to take part too? Grab a three-week-old Kowhai seedling and plant your own at home!
🌿 Giving back to the community – We’re donating a Kawakawa tree to Goodwood School, where students have been using Kawakawa leaves to create balm as part of their fundraising efforts.
🙌🏽 A big thank you to Matt Webb, who planted the tree on behalf of IVS this morning!
