26/05/2026

Starting 1 June 2026, New Zealand will extend English language requirements to Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) applications under ANZSCO and NOL Skill Level 3 roles.

πŸ“Œ What’s changing?
Previously, only Skill Level 4 and 5 applicants needed to meet minimum English requirements. From 1 June 2026, Skill Level 3 applicants will also need to provide proof of English ability.

βœ… Ways to meet the requirement may include:
β€’ Citizenship from eligible countries
β€’ Previous work or study in English
β€’ Approved English language test results

πŸ“Œ Good news β€” some people may be exempt:
βœ”οΈ Current AEWV holders whose visas expire on or before 1 December 2026
βœ”οΈ Applicants who already provided English evidence in a previous AEWV application
βœ”οΈ Job Change applications
βœ”οΈ Seasonal visa categories

⚠️ Important reminder:
Even if your employer received a Job Check token before 1 June 2026, applicants lodging a Skill Level 3 AEWV from 1 June onwards must meet the new English requirement.

Planning to apply for an AEWV? It’s best to prepare early and check whether you may need an English test.

Here are a few common red flags immigration officers may notice in a Tourist Visa application:

🚩 Fake or altered documents
Submitting inaccurate or modified documents may affect your application and future visa applications.

🚩 Sudden large bank deposits
Large unexplained deposits before lodging may raise questions about the source of funds.

🚩 Inconsistent travel history
Previous visa refusals, overstays, or conflicting travel information may be reviewed carefully.

🚩 Unclear source of funds
Immigration officers may assess where your financial support or funds are coming from.

🚩 Contradicting information
Details in your forms, documents, and statements should all be accurate and consistent.

A well-prepared and honest application matters ✨

Moving to New Zealand can come with a few culture surprises for Filipinos πŸ‡³πŸ‡ΏπŸ˜„

Here are some things many people notice when they first arrive:

πŸ•” Stores close earlier than expected
Many shops and malls close much earlier compared to the Philippines, some as early as 5pm.

🌦️ Four seasons in one day
The weather can change quickly β€” sunny in the morning, rainy by afternoon!

β˜• Strong coffee culture
CafΓ©s are everywhere, and coffee runs are part of daily life for many Kiwis.

🏑 Quiet neighborhoods
Many areas are peaceful and less crowded, especially outside the city centre.

πŸ’¬ β€œSweet as!”
A common Kiwi expression that basically means β€œawesome,” β€œall good,” or β€œno worries.”

Auckland weather this beautiful is a sign to go touch grass! 🌾

Check out the Duder Farm Loop Track, Clevedon β€”a scenic 80-min to 2-hour walk with steady inclines and occasional encounter with farm livestock. The highlights are undoubtedly the stunning views overlooking Umupuia Beach and the Hauraki Gulf. There are benches and a picnic table available to rest and soak up the view. We took the popular red marker track, but there are plenty of other longer routes if you are feeling more adventurous. This is a perfect reminder to slow down and find places near you to explore on your own time.

Because that track is mostly open farmland, there isn't much shade. If the Auckland weather is beautiful, definitely pack some SPF! A hat, sunglasses, and a bottle of water would definitely help too.

Documents such as bank statements, employment certificates, travel itineraries, and invitation letters may help support your application.

Strong ties to your home country β€” like work, family, business, or studies β€” may help demonstrate your intention to return home.
