Have you ever seen a wine bottle sealed in a wax cork before? 🍷

As the practice of traditional French winemaking is at the heart of everything at Frenchmans Hill, we preserve our premium wine bottles with traditional waxed cork for the highest quality.

In addition, wine would leak out and oxygen would sneak in, harming the wine, so wax was used to create a stronger, more airtight seal, particularly for bottles meant for long aging. Sealing wax allows the bottle to hold for decades without the need to re-cork the wine.

"Oh my Gawds/ Bacchus/ Dionysius from the living master of vino and ceremonies Luc Desbonnets of Fenchmans Hill Estate. Here is the Terroir of this gift from Luc to me and beyond. From Luc and his vines and wine grown and birthed upon Waiheke. A truly superb wine. 4-5 years ago I created a very special taonga out of a whale tooth for Luc due to his connection to Waiheke and in partial payment the maestro gifted me some of the most exquisite nectar I've ever had the pleasure to imbibe. My last bottle of the 2013 Rock Earth Syrah I gifted to a friend 4 years ago in appreciation of a connection. Tonight this friend is leaving Waiheke apopo/tomorrow and he returned with the bottle to share and toast his departure.

This is the meaning of Terroir/ the landscape, skyscape the seascape/community of relationships shared.
