As part of Recycling Week, we’re highlighting a key collab we have with Nespresso to recycle their coffee pods. From something so small, comes something so big! ☕

Andrew reckons it’s the equivalent of one whole busload of capsules recycled every month - just as well that's not all going to landfill 👊

At our Wiri plant, we separate the recyclable aluminium from the coffee grounds. The aluminium goes on to get a second life, while the coffee grounds work some serious local magic:

🌱 Most grounds are transformed into renewable energy and organic fertiliser at the Ecogas plant in Reporoa using their advanced anaerobic digesters!

🥬 The remaining grounds are donated to Papatuanuku Kōkiri Marae in Māngere to support their incredible regenerative urban farm... that's lovely Val in the picture doing the mahi! 😇

🪵But wait, there's more! Even the capsule postage bags are recycled by Future Post into durable Kiwi fencing products!

It's collaboration at its finest 🚀 Businesses and local communities partnering for Aotearoa's sustainability. It’s exciting, and it’s important 👊

We're pleased to working with Sunshine Yates Consulting again on our annual soft plastic audit, getting valuable insight into the types of soft plastic bags being recycled by New Zealanders in 2026.

We've been conducting these audits since 2020, with soft plastics sorted into more than 30 categories, and audited for contamination levels which helps us build our consumer awareness messages.
