The graph image shows the relative infection rates between countries, calculated as cases per million population – important to find a relative measure between countries – you can see quite similar infection rate between New Zealand and Australia.

The video sequence is a time series analysis using video – this shows the growth in infection rate compared to the mortality rate. The bottom left is low infection and mortality and top right is high infection and mortality and
the size of the bubble reflects the total number of infections.

By using video we can consume a larger volume of data but simplify it in presentation. In the early days the data is not representative due to the low baseline numbers, but as we get into March you can see the different pathways each country takes.

You can see Italy (ITA) and Spain (ESP) take their own pathways to the top right, whereas in the UK (GBR) the mortality rate has surpassed Spain, while the infection rate is still relativity quite low. Mortality is still low in the USA but infections are increasing quickly. Good old New Zealand (and Australia) are still holding down the bottom left – which is a good thing.
