MORE OPINION REGARDING FIANZ HALAL CERTIFICATION OF HARMONY BRAND SAUSAGES ETC
Both Malaysia and INDONESIA (JAKIM & BPJPH respectively) generally prohibit selling halal and haram products under the same brand name- to avoid consumer confusion and ensure halal integrity. Both of these esteemed organisations (JAKIM and BPJPH),& other global halal accreditation bodies, mandate that halal certified brands cannot have haram products in their portfolio, even if they are produced separately.
Simply having a different colour scheme of the halal certified products would not be sufficient to meet the JAKIM & BPJPH requirements.
Why should we referencing JAKIM and BPJPH when we live in NZ- so far away from these countries?
JAKIM and BPJPH (and arguably some other organisations) lead the world in setting halal standards. Their standards are also adopted by Halal Certification Bodies (HCB's) in NZ. As a matter of fact, HCB's such as FIANZ require accreditation by the likes of JAKIM and BPJPH in order to be able to certify halal products for export to Muslim countries.
What if these products are not exported? Technically the HCB may get away with it, however they may still be held to account. Why would a HCB have different policy for domestic and export products?
These type of issues get thoroughly discussed by international halal experts in global halal forums etc.
In short, halal certified products need to be under a brand name that does not have haram products under that brand. Other requirements (such as prevention of cross-contamination etc) also need to be met.
