On the fast track! Months of careful planning was rewarded when the final section of a historical railway building was removed from Pukekohe station last month as part of the Papakura to Pukekohe Electrification Upgrade Project (or P2P). The redevelopment of the station meant there was insufficient space for the building to fit on the new platforms. It was subsequently removed by a passionate historian and private collector and will be added to his historical precinct at Matangi.

The wider Pukekohe station area is set for a huge overhaul, featuring longer platforms to accommodate longer passenger trains, modern passenger station facilities, staff facilities and train stabling capacity. All work is being constructed while trains continue to transverse through the station, making the project highly complex.

Acting as the project manager for KiwiRail, in collaboration with Auckland Transport and Auckland One Rail, Frequency has been integrated with the KRG project team since 2020 providing advice, project management, design management and stakeholder management for the delivery phase of the project.

Funded through the Government’s New Zealand Upgrade Programme, this P2P project is part of KiwiRail’s more than $1.5 billion investment in the Auckland Metro Upgrade Programme to modernise the rail network in New Zealand’s biggest city. The investment will provide people increased access and integration with the rail commuter network and will bring wider environmental, social, and economic benefits to communities.

We’re delighted to announce the opening of our new office in Ōtepoti, Dunedin! Now with four main offices and two satellites across the motu expanding further into the South Island is a very special milestone for us and equally exciting to be taking part in the growth of Dunedin and the Otago region.

Frequency Senior Associate, Scott Bosworth, a Dunedin native, has returned to his hometown to head our new office, bringing with him wide ranging experience from across the globe including water treatment, rail, industrial, buildings and building services, and health. More recently, Scott was the project team lead on the successful delivery of the high-risk and highly critical asset replacement programme at Te Whatu Ora, Auckland City Hospital.

As part of Frequency's ongoing commitment to giving back to the industry, Tim Palin delivered a lecture to Auckland university post graduate students covering project schedule management, delay's, float and the duties of a project scheduler.

At Frequency we find that understanding the schedule, and what it can tell you, and the decisions it can help you make is critical to project success, and to have a team of recognised industry experts at Frequency is something we are very proud of.

Culverts, the hidden hero of the stormwater network.

While the impacts of the recent Auckland floods are very fresh and many people are greatly affected, it was both a relief and, at the same time, fascinating to observe the positive results of the recently completed upgrade to the Wolverton Culverts in action.

Designed for the ‘1 in 100 year’ flood event, the move to upgrade this catchment was generated by the aftermath of the torrential downpour in 2017, with the loss of the adjacent culvert and the damage to local residences, businesses, and main arterials in New Lynn and the disruption that ensued.

Applying lessons learnt from previous projects, Auckland Transport and Auckland Council - Healthy Waters addressed the risk presented on Wolverton by the under-capacity infrastructure. The upgraded culvert structures were designed to convey the stormwater runoff and channel the flow of floodwaters under the road.

”It was fantastic to see the new culverts on Wolverton performing as designed with a reduction in risk to flooding of habitable dwellings, little disruption to traffic, and critical services on this corridor unaffected. Wolverton is an important arterial road on Auckland’s roading network which has functioned well in this extreme rain event.”- Frequency Executive Associate and Lead Project Manager, Catherine Hemi.

Frequency were proud to provide project management services for the delivery of this vital infrastructure upgrade.
