This is a genuinely hands-on marine role. You'll operate single and twin-screw harbour tugs, move and position dumb barges, and then get stuck in alongside the wider crew supporting marine construction projects.

We're looking for someone with:
⚓ Previous harbour tug experience
⚓ Experience towing and positioning dumb barges
⚓ Strong close-quarters boat-handling skills
⚓ A practical, safety-focused approach
⚓ A willingness to roll up your sleeves and help wherever needed

Bonus points if you've also got experience with:
🔹 Cranes or lifting operations
🔹 Do***ng or rigging
🔹 Marine piling
🔹 Marine or civil construction

This role will suit an experienced operator who enjoys variety and being part of the wider job rather than spending the entire day in the wheelhouse.

📍 Auckland based, with some work outside the region
🚢 Varied tug, barge and marine construction operations
👷 Hands-on role within an experienced marine team

Applicants will need the appropriate Maritime New Zealand certification for the vessels and operating limits involved.

⚠️ You must already be legally entitled to work in New Zealand. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

⚡ ELECTRICAL TECHS — HOW ABOUT TAKING YOUR SKILLS TO THE WATER? ⚓

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Technician for an Auckland marine business — and you don’t need to already work in marine.

If your background is in:

🔧 Automotive Electrical
🚐 RV / Caravan Electrical & Fit-Out
⚙️ Industrial Electrical
💻 Automation & Controls
⚡ Marine Electrical

…your skills could be highly transferable.

Think batteries, alternators, solar, charging systems, inverters, AC/DC power, automation and control systems — then add Starlink, navigation electronics, onboard networks and some seriously impressive marine technology.

You’ll be working across high-end recreational and commercial vessels, with plenty of technical variety and a structured pathway to build specialist marine capability.

What’s on offer?

✅ 9-day fortnight
✅ Advanced electrical & electronic systems
✅ Paid technical and vendor training
✅ Clear career progression
✅ Variety of workshop, marina & onboard work
✅ Auckland based

If you’re a strong fault-finder who enjoys figuring things out rather than doing the same job every day, this could be a great next move.

📩 Interested? Apply through Manaaki Marine or get in touch for a confidential conversation.

Please note: You must already have the legal right to work in New Zealand. Sponsorship is not available for this role.

What a fantastic few days in Wellington at the 2026 Q-West Boat Builders Whanganui, NZMTA Conference.

It was a real privilege to stand before industry peers and announce the recipients of this year’s NZMTA Young Seafarer of the Year and NZMTA Seafarer of the Year awards—recognising two outstanding individuals who represent the strength, professionalism, and future of New Zealand’s maritime sector.

Congratulations to our winners:

🏆 NZMTA Young Seafarer of the Year – Levon Mosdell, Marlborough Tour Company

A well-deserved recognition for an emerging maritime professional already demonstrating exceptional commitment, capability, and leadership potential early in their career.

🏆 NZMTA Seafarer of the Year – Rob McKnight, Fullers360

A fitting acknowledgement of a highly respected industry professional whose contribution to New Zealand maritime reflects excellence, dedication, and service to the sector.

These awards are a reminder of the depth of talent we have across our industry—from the next generation stepping forward, through to those who continue to lead by example.

A sincere thank you to Margaret Wind, Chris Musgrave and the entire NZMTA committee for delivering another excellent conference and bringing the industry together once again.

And now, attention turns to 2027—an especially significant year as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the NZMTA. A milestone worth celebrating, and I’ve no doubt next year’s conference will be something special
