A New Zealand Master’s that does not meet the 30-week study requirement, or where the applicant does not hold a Bachelor’s degree, can instead attract 𝟱 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀. Overseas qualifications may also require an 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, unless exempt.

These qualification points are only 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗠𝗖 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. Applicants under the points-based pathway still need 𝟲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 and must meet the skilled employment and other residence requirements.

From 𝟮𝟰 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, Immigration New Zealand has introduced several changes to the 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆 (𝗦𝗠𝗖) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀.

One important change for students planning ahead: a 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝟲 𝗦𝗠𝗖 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 when the applicant has completed at least 30 weeks of full-time study in New Zealand and also holds a 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿’𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲, w𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀.
