Ward Demolition has been working hard on the unique demolition of 256 Queen St. 🚧
Wedged between two buildings in the heart of Auckland CBD, the 1884 building was originally the ASB headquarters. 🏦 However, is more recently recognized as the old Queen St Maccas. 🍔 As a Category 1 Historic Place, much of the historic elements must remain intact or be safely recovered for the rebuild. This includes both facades and three stories of original 1884 architecture, on the Queen St side. 🕰️
Typically, CBD projects have restricted access for truck and machinery, but with the Lorne Street façade and entire ASB building remaining, this project takes restricted access to a whole new level. All of the soft materials had to be downsized into wheely bins and hand loaded onto a four-wheeler truck. 🚛
The concrete and brick walls were removed with hand breakers and small machinery. 🧱These materials were too heavy and had to be stockpiled awaiting the opening of the Lorne St section, that allowed truck load out. As soon as we had room for the HX145cr, we were just able to fit 6 wheelers into site, for a much faster load out. 👏
The entire team has worked tirelessly on this project highlighting their vast range of skills. 🦺 Including Licensed and Qualified A/B class Asbestos removal, working at heights/ roof removal, hand tool use, concrete cutting, gas cutting and heavy machinery operation. ⛓ Ward Demolition management worked closely with the main contractor, Icon, to ensure all health and safety measures were implemented, noise, dust and vibrations were monitored and minimized, while maintaining the projects tight timeline.
