Similarly, in New Zealand, a bank robber was convicted after being sprayed with SelectaDNA, providing irrefutable evidence of his guilt.
For the third Day of the National Business Crime Centre Week of Action it is time to have a look at the results our international partners are achieving. All across the world, convictions have been secured against retail criminals thanks to the deployment of SelectaDNA.
In New York, Truman Jewelers were targeted by a snatch-and-grab burglar who made off with stock worth around $4,000. That wasn’t the only thing he left with though – he left with a DNA forensic mark from the SelectaDNA Intruder Spray they had installed. The Police were able to track him down and irrefutably place him at the crime scene thanks to the mark.
Paul Crabbe, owner of Truman Jewellers, said at the time ‘For me, the really positive thing for the client and my staff is that all we have to do is activate the system and let the Police do their job.’
Similarly in the Danish town of Rønnede, an armed robber at a Rema 1000 store was sprayed by a SelectaDNA Intruder Spray, which are installed at every one of their stores. He too was caught and traced back to his crime.
The director of security for Rema 1000, Peter Bruun, noted that after the installation of all the systems the company saw no robberies for a year, and the thief at Rønnede was caught very quickly, and that it was due to SelectaDNA.
In this Week of Action, we are hoping that these overseas success stories might inspire UK business owners to take similar action. We know they would get similar results.
