The Company
The Back Office Company is a growing bookkeeping services business delivering efficient, high-
quality bookkeeping support to clients across New Zealand through best-practice systems,
processes, and experienced people. Our client base increasingly includes medium-sized businesses
in Auckland and throughout the country, creating opportunities for capable bookkeepers who are
ready to work at a more senior level. Many of our bookkeepers are contractors who value being able
to focus on high-quality bookkeeping while leaving the administrative side of running a business to
us. We provide clients, ensure prompt payment, and offer excellent training, guidance, and support
so you can concentrate on what you do best: delivering accurate, reliable bookkeeping services to
professional clients.
The Job
We work with clients across a wide range of industries, with bookkeeping requirements typically
ranging from 5–6 hours per week up to 20 hours per week, offering variety, autonomy, and the
chance to build strong ongoing client relationships. Most work can be completed remotely from
home, with flexibility around your working hours, although you will need to meet clients onsite
during onboarding alongside the manager and be available to clients during normal business hours.
We are ideally looking for someone based in Auckland for this role. The position suits a bookkeeper
who is confident taking ownership of full bookkeeping responsibilities, including accounts payable,
accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, full balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals, GST,
and payroll. You will also have the opportunity to work with larger, more complex medium-sized
organisations using systems such as MYOB Acumatica (formerly MYOB Advanced) and MYOB Exo.
The Person
We are looking for a capable, experienced bookkeeping contractor who can work independently,
communicate professionally, and manage client relationships with confidence. Experience with
MYOB Acumatica (formerly MYOB Advanced), MYOB Exo, or other tier-two accounting systems
would be highly regarded, although we will provide support and training for the right person with
strong technical bookkeeping foundations and a genuine desire to continue learning. You will need
excellent communication skills, sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to work with a
wide variety of clients and business owners. Membership of a recognised bookkeeping association
would be an advantage, and we are particularly interested in people who are committed to ongoing
professional development in a fast-changing bookkeeping environment. Preference will be given to
candidates with professional bookkeeping qualifications and several years of relevant experience.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior bookkeeper who wants quality work, flexibility, strong
systems, regular training, and the backing of a team of highly experienced bookkeepers. This is a
contract position, and we are looking for someone who can commit to working with us for a
minimum of 20 hours per week, preferably more.
