📣 ANNOUNCEMENT 📢

Westbrook friends and fans, it’s time! We are delighted to let you know that we are opening our doors once again! We are starting with a soft launch this Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October. To support our new kitchen and cellar door crew while they find their feet, we will open for BOOKINGS ONLY for both days.

We will be open from 11am to 5pm and will be rolling out our artisan cheeseboards, tasty platters and gourmet pizzas. Vegetarian, GF and Vegan options available.

We will also be offering a full Westbrook w**e list plus a small selection of locally-brewed beers and non-alcoholic drinks.

🌿 Week 5 in the Malbec block 🍇 same row, same (future) delicious w**e in your glass 🍷 Walk with us as we track these dear little green buds and new shoots through to Vintage 2027!

Growth is slow but steady. Not as much progress compared to the same week last year, but w**emaking is a marathon not a sprint 🏃‍♀️ This Malbec block is the last to get to bud burst and the last to be picked too.

Westbrook is a small, privately-owned, boutique w**ery. Our fruit is hand-picked and then carefully hand-crafted into stunning w**es. On the home block in Waimauku we grow Pinot Gris, Albariño, Chardonnay and Malbec. Sometimes we only produce a handful of barrels of a variety - that’s the charm (and challenge) of a small vineyard! The outcomes are also dependent on the weather 🌦️ ☀️ 🌧️ so that can be nerve-wracking at times.

No soundtrack for this one other than Mother Nature! So peaceful.

🌿 Week 4 in the Malbec block 🍇 same row, same (future) w**e in your glass 🍷 Keep us company each week as we track these dear little green buds and new shoots through to Vintage 2027!

You can now see that pretty much all of the buds have ‘burst’ or opened and are unfurling and stretching happily in the sunshine. This Malbec block is the usually the last one to reach this stage - if you’re driving past the vineyard, you’ll see that there’s much more greenery across the Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Albariño blocks.

📢 Round 5 of the great Westbrook w**e-list round-up 🍷🍾 We have worked our way through the Methode Brut Rosé, Crackling Rosé, Pinot Gris and Albariño, so that brings us to a very special w**e, which is also one of our flagship varieties - Riesling!

Riesling is an intriguing variety as it one of the 'aromatics' - that brings with it multiple layers of tastes and flavours, including primary aromas ranging from earth to citrus and tropical fruit. Riesling bunch architecture is very compact, which is not a good match with the humid Auckland climate, so we source our fruit primarily from old vines established by the Wiffens. They were pioneers in the Southern Valleys and Wither Hills district. Riesling thrives in Marlborough, which experiences an average of 2,513 hours of sunshine annually.

Riesling Single Vineyard Marlborough 2021 ~ W**emaker James Rowan describes it like this; "Our muse... tempting and attending with citrus florals, balmy tropical and pensive poise. An off-dry, yet unctuous revelation laced with a dynamic freshness."

At the last count, since 1998, Westbrook Riesling has received around 63 w**e awards, just saying 👀

🌿 Week 3 in the Malbec block, same row, same (future) grapes, walk with us as we track these babies through to Vintage 2027!

As you can see there's not a huge amount of growth over the last seven days but all of the buds have burst now. Driving past the vineyard it really is thrilling to see a sea of green everywhere.

The ECU (extreme close-ups) are a little bit 'Feed me, Seymour' but hey... we said we wanted to get up close and personal with our future best friends!

🔔 Round 4 on our w**elist roundup... introducing our rather wonderful Pinot Gris Waimauku 2021. (We are just refreshing your memory as to what liquid delights await you at W**ery ahead of our Cellar Door opening.)

Pinot Gris Waimauku 2021 is described by w**emaker James Rowan like this... "From turbulence to beguiling calm. Our Waimauku Pinot Gris of clay origins, a waxen and savoury expression of pear compote, with the sumptuous stroke of kiwi and lime. Brushes of liquorice and steeped fig build over an enduring palate, reflecting the heat of summer days and cooling nights." Poetic, as always ❤️

It's a fabulous match with one of our cheeseboards, just saying. Also thoroughly drinkable while lounging on the couch at the end of the patio, or at a picnic table by the pond, or on a blanket under the trees, or... you get the drift! Anywhere, anytime, that's our Pinot Gris.

Ahead of our re-opening in October, every nook and cranny of the building has been cleaned and scrubbed or painted - including the Cellar Door. The team are doing such a great job. The paint and varnish fumes have been a little 🤪 at times but soon enough the work will be finished, the Cellar Door will be open again, and it will smell only of deliciousness.
