🔥 Is your lithium-ion battery fire extinguisher actually compliant?

Suppliers across Australia and New Zealand have been caught making misleading claims — suggesting their lithium-ion extinguishers meet AS/NZS 1841 standards. The truth? No specific standard exists for this type of extinguisher.

Even more importantly — these products are NOT designed for use by the general public. Lithium-ion battery fires produce toxic smoke, can reignite after appearing out, and require trained professionals to tackle safely.

If a lithium-ion battery catches fire in your home — move away and call 111 immediately. Don't rely on an unverified extinguisher.

✅ At PSL Fire & Safety, we only supply extinguishers that meet verified NZ compliance standards.

Suppliers of so-called lithium-ion battery fire extinguishers have been forced to revise misleading compliance claims — and the warning is just as relevant for New Zealand consumers. Across the Tasman, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has taken action against suppliers who...

🥶 Is your smoke alarm feeling the cold too?

If you've had an alarm go off for no reason on a freezing night lately, you're not alone. Smoke alarms hate the cold just as much as we do.

Why does it happen?
🌡️ Alarms work best between about 4°C and 40°C
🔋 Cold batteries can read as "flat" even when they're fine
💧 Rapid temperature drops can cause condensation inside the unit

How to fix it
🏠 Warmer rooms = fewer false alarms
📏 Move the alarm a metre or two away if it's near a bathroom or window
🧽 Give it a wipe down and a vacuum to clear out dust
🔁 Press test until it resets properly

Nobody loves a 3am alarm scare, but please don't ignore it or disconnect it. Winter is peak season for house fires — and you can't smell smoke while you're asleep. 🚨

🔋🔥 That "lithium-ion fire extinguisher" you saw online? It can't actually stop a battery fire.

Once thermal runaway kicks in, no portable extinguisher on the market can stop it. ⚠️

E-bikes. E-scooters. Power tools. Know the truth before you buy 👇

🔗

There is a very deliberate reason why PSL Fire & Safety does not sell products marketed as "lithium-ion battery fire extinguishers." Based on the current evidence available, these extinguishers do not contain an extinguishing agent capable of stopping the thermal runaway process th...
