As the stage was set last night for , our table setting was based around the event’s theme of decadence and abundant dining. Exploring the theme of abundance, we have drawn inspiration from motifs of generosity, harvest and the act of coming together as depicted in Tiepolo’s Banquet of Cleopatra, the hero image of this year’s event. Amplifying the subtle brilliance of our namesake material, a porcelain urn forms the centrepiece of our table arrangement, the table itself covered with a table cloth based on the Willow Pattern forming an enormous plate, from which a crop of porcelain fruit and vegetables overflows in glazed and unglazed gold and ivory finishes. This cascading croquembouche is accented by a selection of produce immortalised in striking 24 karat gold, tirelessly finished by hand. As guests took their seat, a glass cloche revealed their evening’s gift: an entirely bespoke piece of porcelain finished in 24 karat gold to treasure. Thanks toco for the beautiful gold cutlery designed by .m.johnston

Anthony during setup yesterday . As you can see, the urn we created here at PB for the event was quite tall. Measuring 1.2 metres in height, including its base, it had to be an impressive statement of excess. The bowl of the urn needed to be structural but translucent to hold the weight of our ‘croquembouche’ and allow for illumination from inside. The most appropriate material for this application was bone China, offering strength as well as a stunning degree of translucency. This bowl is actually 7mm thick which, when you consider the amount of light passing through it, highlights just how superb this material is as a medium for lighting.

We would like to congratulate Porcelain Bear on their magnificent porcelain creation for the Art of Dining event.
