Strategy sessions hit different when you're learning from the people you've helped build.

Last week, our team spent part of our annual planning day at Datum Projects, sitting down with Seth and his team (Icehouse alumni) who've been part of our community since the 2017 Owner Manager Programme.

What struck us wasn't just the growth of their business. It was the honest conversation about resilience.

Seth walked us through navigating COVID's impact on construction, internal team challenges, and the kind of decisions that keep you up at night. But here's what made it powerful: he didn't navigate those alone.

The connections from his OMP cohort became his informal board. Alumni introductions led to key partnerships. And when tough calls needed to be made, he had people who'd been in the trenches to talk it through with.

Eight years on, Seth's still engaging with Icehouse by sending his team through our programmes and continuing his own learning. That's not a transaction. That's what a real business community looks like.

We talk a lot about building capability in businesses. Days like this remind us that the relationships formed in our programmes often matter just as much as the frameworks.
