Last week we announced the recipients of the Kaye Avery Memorial Scholarship, and the CareerEQ team couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this year’s recipients.

We were blown away by the calibre and range of entries, which made selecting the scholarship recipients a genuinely tough decision.

Thank you to everyone who applied; your ambition and effort are exactly why we’re proud to offer this support as part of our ongoing commitment to career development.

On 19 December, we lost our mum, Kaye Avery, the founder of Career EQ.

For those of you who knew her, you will know she was direct, warm, and completely committed to helping people find work that mattered to them. She had a way of cutting through the noise to what was real.

Mum was the centre of our family. Her impact on our lives was deep and full of purpose. Losing her has been the hardest thing we have been through.

She built CareerEQ around a belief she carried her whole career: that every person has a contribution they were born to make, and that a career is not just a job but a journey that encompasses life, learning and work. She spent more than two decades helping thousands of people find the clarity to move forward.

Her work continues through us, Kristy, Kathryn, Jessica and Jonathon, and through the wonderful team of coaches she built at CareerEQ.

We have something to share with you this week. For now, we just want to say: we are here, and we are carrying this forward.

The Avery family

Navigating Change and Development -

As JP Michael, founder of the Challenge Card Sort, says, “Job Matching is Over.” The focus is shifting from simply matching people to roles toward development mode. It's about supporting employees to build self-awareness, understand their strengths and motivations, and align these with both the...

Whilst I fully agree with the government that going on a benefit straight after school or training is not ideal, denying them a benefit will cause harm. Struggling parents will be seriously impacted, and young people could spiral into learned helplessness. We all know how vulnerable our young people

Will AI take our work?
AI’s reach has extended into almost every corner of the workforce, including career coaching. Like many professions, we find ourselves asking: Will the quick fixes AI offers replace what we do?
The truth is, the future of work is uncertain. AI is rapidly colonising vast areas of routine labour, especially transactional and rules-based tasks that are predictable and repetitive. However human centric work is necessary. Read the rest of the article: https://lnkd.in/gHRywQp7

'A career journey begins with one step'
I am always interested in people and their careers, and it's an old habit to inquire - but in an ambulance with the paramedics? In the back of my mind were three second-year university students I had been working with. Check out the story:
