Congratulations to Shayd Tahu, Field Services Officer, who has received a Highly Commended recognition in the NZSA Saved a Life Awards.

While responding to a callout, Shayd identified a serious welfare concern involving an individual in crisis and at risk of self-harm. Recognising the urgency of the situation, he remained calm, compassionate, and focused throughout the incident.

Through his reassuring communication and quick thinking, Shayd successfully de-escalated the situation while coordinating an urgent response through the National Operations Centre. Emergency services were promptly dispatched, ensuring the individual received the care and support they needed.

The customer has formally acknowledged Shayd's actions and the initiative he demonstrated in identifying and escalating the welfare concern.

Shayd's professionalism, sound judgement, and commitment to preserving life exemplify the very best of FIRST Security. We are proud to see his efforts recognised through this Highly Commended award.

A small act of kindness can make a world of difference.

Recently, a parent shared a heartfelt story about their neurodiverse and vulnerable son, for whom travelling on public transport can be a source of constant worry. Like many parents and caregivers, they often wonder whether he has arrived safely, made it to the right place, and kept track of his belongings along the way.

When the young man accidentally left his watch behind on a train, FIRST Security Officer Navjot Kaur noticed it, secured it for safekeeping, and ensured it was safely returned. Her quick actions and reassurance provided immediate relief to a worried parent and turned a stressful situation into a positive experience.

This wasn't just about a lost watch. It was about showing care, understanding, and looking out for someone who needed a little extra support. For families of neurodiverse and vulnerable people, these moments of kindness provide confidence and peace of mind that cannot be measured.

We're incredibly proud of Navjot for going above and beyond and for demonstrating the compassion, professionalism, and community spirit that make a real difference every day.
