Meet Ian: Rockstar-Turned-Community Champion

For the last three decades, Ian's been the community-loving heart behind numerous collaborations across business, government, and non-profits. Always at the ready with a helping hand, he's had his fingers in a bunch of local gov, charity, and corporate pies—including stints at AUT, Westpac, and various councils.

Ian left school wanting to be a rock and roll star, and after a decade chasing the dream, he was forced into a more permanent working situation by a mortgage, children and declining hairline. Ian happened upon Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the mid-nineties and has been obsessed with the subject ever since..

An active volunteer, Ian has held a number of roles in the community including being a trustee of Volunteering Auckland and Chairman of Storytime Foundation. He is currently a mentor with Business Mentors NZ and Chairs the Tuakau Business Association. In 2012, he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship, Rotary International’s highest award for services to the community.

When not otherwise occupied, Ian can be found with his family, friends and garden; a good meal and music is usually involved as well.
