📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR AEWV APPLICANTS 📢
Starting 1 June 2026, New Zealand will introduce minimum English language requirements for Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) applications under ANZSCO/NOL Skill Level 3 occupations.
✅ Currently, this requirement only applies to Skill Level 4 and 5 roles.
✅ From 1 June 2026, Skill Level 3 applicants will also need to meet English language requirements.
Applicants may prove their English ability through:
• Citizenship from eligible English-speaking countries
• Previous work or study completed in English
• Approved English language tests
⚠️ Important exemptions and transitional arrangements:
✔️ Current AEWV holders will NOT be affected while their visa remains valid.
✔️ People with AEWVs expiring on or before 1 December 2026 may be exempt when applying for another AEWV at Skill Level 3.
✔️ Applicants who already provided English evidence in a previous AEWV application may also be exempt.
✔️ Job Change applications are exempt from this requirement.
✔️ Seasonal visa categories such as Global Workforce Seasonal Visa and Peak Seasonal Visa AEWV are also exempt.
This change aims to help migrants better integrate into New Zealand workplaces and understand their rights and responsibilities.
If you are planning to apply for an AEWV under Skill Level 3, it is best to prepare early for possible English language requirements.
