Whangārei saw 90mm of rain overnight so we're expecting stormwater systems including rivers and streams to be near capacity all day Sunday. As the winds pick up, we're recommending people take caution if they need to travel. High winds today may topple trees and cause power outages - be prepared.

CYCLONE VAIANU – SUNDAY MORNING 6AM UPDATE

Current position:
• The centre of Cyclone Vaianu is around 160km northeast of Great Barrier Island
• Moving southeastwards

Overnight conditions:
• Strongest gust: 131 km/h at Mokohinau and Channel Island
• 24-hour Rainfall:
160mm at the Pinnacles (Coromandel)
90mm Whangarei

While the centre of Cyclone Vaianu is still offshore it has caused a very windy night across the top of the country, especially around the exposed northeastern coasts along with large waves of 6m off the Bay of Plenty coast, and periods of heavy rain.

Today looks like our windiest day for most, switching direction for places like Northland and Auckland as we head through the morning.

🌤️ NZ Weather Update: Calm Before the Next Trough (April 8, 2026)
Following the brief period of heavy rain that impacted the West Coast earlier this week, New Zealand is enjoying a mostly settled day today, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as a transient ridge of high pressure moves across the country.

Today’s National Breakdown:

North Island: A predominantly dry and bright day. The northern regions, including Auckland, are experiencing pleasant autumn sunshine with highs around 22°C.

South Island: After a cool start (with light frosts in inland Otago), the sunshine has warmed most areas. Christchurch is looking at a high of 20°C. The West Coast is finally clearing up after its recent deluge.

⚠️ Looking Ahead (Thursday & Friday):

As a "fast learner," you know that settled weather in NZ rarely lasts. Our sources, including MetService, are tracking a new, fast-moving trough approaching the South Island from the southwest.

Thursday (Late): Heavy rain and strong, gusty northwest winds are forecast to hit Fiordland and Southland.

Friday: This trough will sweep across the South Island, bringing a brief but intense period of rain and a significant temperature drop. This system is expected to arrive in the lower North Island (Wellington) by Friday night.

Minimum Wage & AEWV (April 1st) 💰

2026 අප්‍රේල් 1 වැනිදා සිට නවසීලන්තයේ අවම වැටුප පැයකට ඩොලර් 23.95 දක්වා වැඩි කිරීමට නියමිතය. මෙය AEWV වීසා හිමියන්ට සෘජුවම බලපායි:

නව අයදුම්පත්: අප්‍රේල් 1 දින හෝ ඊට පසුව ඉදිරිපත් කරන සියලුම AEWV අයදුම්පත් මෙම නව වැටුප් මට්ටමට අනුකූල විය යුතුය.

දැනට වීසා ඇති අය: ඔබගේ වීසා බලපත්‍රය පැරණි වැටුප් මට්ටමට අනුමත වී තිබුණද, අප්‍රේල් 1 සිට අවම වශයෙන් $23.95ක වැටුපක් ලබා දීමට ඔබේ සේවායෝජකයා නීතියෙන් බැඳී සිටී.

Major AEWV Changes Coming March 25! 🚨

තව දින 3කින් නවසීලන්තයේ වැඩ බලපත්‍ර (AEWV) ක්‍රියාවලිය වඩාත් දැඩි වන "High-Skill, High-Accountability" ආකෘතියට වෙනස් වේ. ඔබ දැනගත යුතු ප්‍රධාන කරුණු මෙන්න:

දැඩි රැකියා පරීක්ෂාවන්: විදේශිකයෙකු බඳවා ගැනීමට පෙර ඒ සඳහා සුදුසු නවසීලන්ත වැසියෙකු නොමැති බවට සේවායෝජකයන් පෙරට වඩා ප්‍රබල සාක්ෂි ඉදිරිපත් කළ යුතුය.

වීසා කාලසීමාව කෙටි වීම: Level 4 සහ 5 කාණ්ඩයේ රැකියා සඳහා වීසා මත රැඳී සිටිය හැකි උපරිම කාලය කෙටි කර ඇත. මෙහි අරමුණ වන්නේ ශ්‍රමිකයන් වැඩිදුර පුහුණුව ලබා ඉහළ රැකියා හෝ පදිංචිය (Residency) කරා යොමු කිරීමයි.

නවසීලන්ත රජය විසින් පදිංචිය සඳහා වන අයදුම්පත් ප්‍රමාණය පාලනය කිරීමට හඳුන්වා දුන් Amber සහ Red ලැයිස්තුවලට අයත් ප්‍රධාන රැකියා පහත දැක්වේ.

🟠 Amber ලැයිස්තුව (සීමාවන්ට යටත්ව පදිංචිය ඉල්ලිය හැක)

මෙම රැකියා සඳහා තවමත් පදිංචිය (PR) ඉල්ලිය හැකි නමුත්, මාසිකව සීමිත අයදුම්පත් ප්‍රමාණයක් පමණක් භාර ගනු ලැබේ. High salary (1.5x median) or regional work (outside Auckland/Wellington) moves you to the front of the Amber queue.

1. Retail & Hospitality: Retail Managers (General), Cafe and Restaurant Managers, Hotel/Motel Managers.

2. Administration: Office Managers, Personal Assistants (Executive level), Program Administrators.

3. Lower-Tier ICT: ICT Customer Support Officers, Web Developers (Junior to Mid-level).

4. General Trades: Residential Painters, Floor Finishers, Glaziers.

5. Logistics: Supply Chain Coordinators, Transport Officers.

🔴 Red ලැයිස්තුව (පදිංචිය සඳහා අයදුම් කිරීම අත්හිටුවා ඇත)

පුවත: හරිත ලැයිස්තුවේ (Green List) ඇති රැකියා (ඉදිකිරීම්, සෞඛ්‍ය, තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණ) සඳහා අධ්‍යාපනය ලැබූ සිසුන්ට ඔවුන්ගේ විවෘත රැකියා වීසා කාලය තවත් වසරකින් දීර්ඝ කර ගැනීමට දැන් අවස්ථාව ඇත.

කොන්දේසිය: ඒ සඳහා තමන් ඉගෙන ගත් ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ මාස 6ක රැකියා පළපුරුද්දක් පෙන්විය යුතුය.

2. සහකරු/සහකාරිය සඳහා වන වීසා (Partner Open Work Visa)

වැටුප් සීමාව: ඔබේ සහකරුට හෝ සහකාරියට විවෘත රැකියා වීසා බලපත්‍රයක් ලබා දීමට නම්, ඔබ අවම වශයෙන් පැයකට ඩොලර් 29.66ක් උපයන බව පෙන්විය යුතුය.

ශිෂ්‍ය වීසා: දැනට විවෘත රැකියා වීසා ලබාගත හැක්කේ Level 7 හෝ ඊට වැඩි මට්ටමේ ඉහළ ඉල්ලුමක් ඇති ක්ෂේත්‍රවල ඉගෙන ගන්නා සිසුන්ගේ සහකරුවන්ට පමණි.

3. ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ විවෘත රැකියා වීසා (Recovery Visa)

අරමුණ: 2026 මුල ඇති වූ කාලගුණික විපත් නිසා සිදුවූ හානි පිළිසකර කිරීමට එන ශ්‍රමිකයන් සඳහා මාස 6ක විශේෂ විවෘත රැකියා වීසා කාණ්ඩයක් හඳුන්වා දී ඇත.

විශේෂත්වය: මෙම වීසා බලපත්‍ර සේවා දින 5ක් ඇතුළත ලබා දීමට කටයුතු කෙරේ.
