🇳🇿 Fun Fact: New Zealand Offers FREE Public Healthcare!
Yes, you read that right!
For most people with resident visas who live in New Zealand, health care and disability services are funded.

Even if you have a temporary visa, you may still be able to get subsidised services in some situations. Check your eligibility on the Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora website.

If you cannot access funded health care, you can still use New Zealand’s health care services but you will need to pay. You should get medical insurance from your home country before you travel here.

Private health care is also available.

New Parent Boost Visitor Visa Offers Longer Stay for Parents

Kia ora,

The Government is introducing the Parent Boost Visitor Visa, which will allow parents of New Zealand citizens and residents to stay in New Zealand for up to five years.

To be eligible, applicants must:

•Have an eligible sponsor, and either they or their sponsor must have sufficient income or funds
•Meet residence-level health requirements
•Hold comprehensive health insurance for the duration of their stay
•Genuinely intend to stay in New Zealand temporarily

Visa holders will be required to complete a health and insurance check three years after their visa is granted.

Applicants may apply for the visa twice, allowing them to stay in New Zealand with their families for up to ten years, provided they continue to meet the requirements.

Applications open on 29 September 2025. More details about the requirements will be available closer to that date.

The Parent Boost Visitor Visa is in addition to the existing Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa, which allows for shorter stays. Parents who wish to live in New Zealand permanently should consider the Parent Resident Visa, which remains capped at 2,500 places per year, or the Parent Retirement Visa.

Exciting news for migrant workers and their partners!

Starting December 2, 2024, the government will introduce open work rights for more partners of migrant workers, allowing them to work for any employer they choose.

Under the new rules, if your partner holds an Accredited Employer Work Visa in a higher-skilled role, or a lower-skilled role on a pathway to residence, you may qualify for an open work visa. Here’s who can benefit:

- Those in ANZSCO Level 1-3 roles earning at least $25.29 per hour
- Migrants in ANZSCO Level 4-5 roles listed on the Green List or covered by specific sector agreements, meeting the required wage thresholds
- Individuals in ANZSCO Level 4-5 roles earning at least 1.5 times the median wage
- Holders of an Essential Skills Work Visa earning a minimum of $25.29 per hour

Current visa holders can also apply to switch to open work rights on December 2 if their partner meets the new criteria.

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity! Contact us today to explore how these changes can benefit you and your family.
