đŚ Aucklandâs transport future is shifting gears! đŚ
The Local Government (Auckland Council) (Transport Governance) Amendment Act 2026 has officially passed, bringing one of the biggest changes to how transport is planned and delivered in TÄmaki Makaurau.
đWhatâs new:
⢠Auckland Regional Transport Committee (ARTC) will now lead long term planning, including a 30 year Transport Plan.
⢠A statutory CCO will continue delivering public transport services.
⢠Auckland Council will take on all other transport functions, including Road Controlling Authority responsibilities, moving key decisions from Auckland Transport to the Governing Body and local boards.
Implementation must happen within six months, and work is already underway across governance, staff consultation, and system transitions. Transport Change Director Steve Mutton is leading the transition for both council and Auckland Transport.
Full legislative details will be available on the New Zealand Legislation website once Royal assent is complete. https://zurl.co/JzM6l
