At our last meeting we had the pleasure of hearing from David Hooper from David Hooper CA Limited as our 10 minute speaker.

David opened with the idea that his role is to "handle the tricky things" and showed that accounting goes well beyond bookkeeping. He explained how tax structures, income allocation, finance and debt structure, shareholder current accounts, provisional tax, rental-property chattels, vehicle finance and business purchases can materially affect the outcome for a business owner.

A key message was to get advice before signing agreements or making major financial decisions. David used practical examples to show why looking forward matters, particularly when buying a business, and why cash flow, tax consequences and the real connection between expenditure and income need to be understood before a decision is made.
