Nau mai ki a Matariki me Te Karanga-a-Hape! ✨

One of Tāmaki Makaurau’s most beloved Matariki celebrations returns on Thursday 9 July, transforming Karangahape Road into a free, all-day journey of light, music, storytelling, and connection. Te Karanga-a-Hape invites communities from across Tāmaki Makaurau and beyond to gather, reflect, and celebrate the Māori New Year together.

We are humbled to welcome our first wave of incredible artists answering the call this year:

..and this is just the beginning! We have so much more to announce as the whole road comes alive with activations that connect us to the stars. Grab a map on the night to discover the dedicated place for each whetū along your journey. 🌟

This week on Karangahape Road, take a deeper dive into the public programme at 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗮.

On Wednesday evening, join Kaiwhakamahiri Pirihi Taiwhenua curatorial intern 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗟𝘆𝗮𝗹𝗹 for 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘒𝘪𝘵 — a monthly gathering for whakawhanaungatanga, kōrero, exchange, and community. This month, participants are invited to bring along a work of art (completed or in progress) to share, discuss, and receive feedback on. Come have a drink and be part of the conversation at 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝘁.

Then on Thursday evening, head back to 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗮 for a lecture by 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗱𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶 accompanying 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦 𝘋𝘰𝘮𝘦 by 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗘𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗶.
