Even though it may seem like things don’t go your way very often, you can’t let yourself get swayed by this. You only need one win to turn everything around!

The reality is that you will face a disproportionate amount of set back, speed bumps, dead ends and failures. In fact you could have hundreds of them, but all you need is to get to the one win and ride it for what it’s worth and it can change your life.

The question is how well prepared are you for when that opportunity comes? Are you set to grab it with both hands and make the most of it? Are you the person you need to be to capitalise when it arrives at your doorstep? Are you ready to step up when the time comes?

Too often we focus on the failures that keep coming at us that we aren’t ready when the win is finally near and so we miss it. Don’t let that happen to you. Understand that failure and set backs are par for the course but a win is just around the corner.

Sell the Results NOT the Process

This is something that I was taught when I was first getting into business. My mentors at the time kept repeating it and I thought I understood what they were saying but now 8 years later I finally am starting to get it properly.

Too often when we are dealing with clients or customers or anyone whom we are trying to help, we want to show them that we know what we are doing. So we explain to them the process and the steps that we are going to take and the different parts of what we are doing. This is in fact not very helpful to them most of the time and instead is just making it about ourselves.

When we sell we have to understand that it is about the customer, the client, the other person and not about us. What do they want to get? What do they want to achieve? What result are they looking for? If you can help them then say that you can and paint them a picture of that. If you can’t then say you can’t. But don’t make it about you.

That is why ‘chiseled abs in 6 months’ sounds better than ‘6 month programme of high intensity work outs.’

Give it a try when you next are selling or pitching an idea or convincing someone.

Every time I start with a new client, this is the very first lesson we have.

I told myself if I ever get around to writing my own book it would be similar to JP’s 12 Rules book and this would be rule number 1 for me.

It is so easy to blame someone else or to expect someone else to do stuff for you and get disappointed when things don’t turn out the way we want it to.

When we understand that it starts and ends with us we are no longer trapped in worry or expectation or anxiety but instead are freed with the knowledge that the ability to change the situation and to realise what we want to see lies with us.

Once we accept success and failure as solely our responsibility we also are able to make better decisions for ourselves without being pressured to give in to others and to the noise around us.

If you’re going into it to “get” something then you’re going to end up very disappointed.

Seek to help, understand, perceive, be moved and be led to where the prospect is at and you will find that they will give you everything you need to close the sale

You know that other people charge more.
You know that you do better than some of those people

After having delt with quite a few businesses this year one thing I have noticed is that most if not a lot of them don’t have any confidence to actually charge what they are worth. They are so scared that they won’t even put the prices out there.

I get this and understand it deeply. Even into last year I was charging very little for singing, despite being international and despite being barely able to pay for ourselves and to stay alive. But I developed something called AUDACITY. It is the daring to think bigger or to think more of yourself.

Stop looking for confidence because confidence comes from experience. But start looking for AUDACITY. Just pure cheek and balls because that’s what it takes in the beginning. No matter how much you plan and think and strategise. You won’t do it without AUDACITY.

For those who don’t however then let me get the money you deserve for you so you can get paid and start to see that people will actually pay highly for your service or product.

The Best Time To Get Help Is NOW: Why you need a communications strategist going into 2021

In this post covid world we understand that plans and strategies that we might have had at the beginning of the year are all out the window now.

Now it’s time to upskill, train and adapt to be able to keep up with this fast pace, ever changing and very volatile world.
You can’t just keep doing the same old stuff and expect to be okay because you won’t be. You’ll be wiped out.

I’m putting out a call to those who want to do these following things
- want to expand and engage into new and more vibrant markets to future proof your success
- doing well but don’t want to get left behind so want an update and be relevant
- want to innovate or make a change because you see the world you positioned for has changed
- want to recreate, renew and revitalise but don’t want to destroy or damage what’s already been built
- want to be able to communicate and articulate effectively what you stand for to attract the right people to you
- want to get cut through and stand out in a good way in this noisy world

If any of these are you then I can help you.

If you want to do these but don’t want to be amazing then I can’t.
If you want to go from good to great then I can’t either.

I ONLY take people who are already great and make them exceptional, world class, legendary, one of a kind or celebrity.

What do you do now?
I am a communications strategist...

It’s probably not really want people expect because I was a singer at the beginning of the year but to me it’s the best and most obvious transition.

As a self managed performer I got to live the best of both worlds. We had the rockstar life; touring, photos, concerts, alcohol, food, hotels, travel, sight seeing, everything.
But the most important thing of all was learning to communicate and articulate your value. I had to get good at telling our story, putting forward our point of difference and connecting with our audiences.

Anyone who has seen our shows knows that I do most of the talking. In fact, anyone who knows me knows that I naturally do most of the taking. Sometimes I guess it comes from liking to hear my own voice but most of the time I want to test and to know if the people we are in front of “get us”.
Do they feel how we feel?
Are they moved by our passion?
Are they in tune with our songs?
Do they see our vision?
Can they imagine the picture of the world that we are trying to paint and convey to them?
This is the real power of an artist. To move people’s heart and to mould their minds through beauty and transcendence.

Every person I meet, every audience I get in front of, every post I make, every song I sing in my career is aimed at one purpose... to try and enrol and empower people to imagine something better for themselves and for our world.

This is the real shame of politics in my opinion is that it is about the lowest common denominator and cheap points but both sides do it and it’s just how it is.

But real and lasting change can only come from inside. It is an inward out process. And we simply try to stir hearts and minds but we can’t control where it goes no more than we can control the wind or the water slipping through our fingers.

This is my true passion. How to connect and bring people to an idea of better. Whatever that looks like or feels like for them. I despite mediocrity and I abhor average. But better, the constant climb to perfection. That is the mountain I will be on for my whole life. And I am happy and honoured to help the fellow traveller on the way.

Work That Matters

I often tell people
ONLY DO THE WORK THAT ONLY YOU CAN DO
This isn’t exactly easy because it demands a new understanding and appreciation of ourselves.
It forces us to pull ourselves out of the backdrop and make ourselves the subject of the painting.
It pushed us to be the main character, in fact the hero or our life and our story.

I spent most of last year scared sh*tless that maybe we had made our singing careers as some kind of fluke. That I had to keep it going because if it all dropped, I would be thrown back to just some kid from Mangere. The whole thing was like a big hampster wheel where we ran to keep it moving to keep it running so we could run.

Covid hit and we had no choice but to go home. Our whole income was wiped out. Everything gone!
I got home and got on the phone to countdown and paknsave asking to be allowed to stack shelves or do anything but I didn’t hear any response. I applied to many jobs in retail but no response.

And so I started a business in communications. Initially it focused on social media and making content. But I quickly realised that it’s not the expression and communication that people have a problem with... it’s themselves. They genuinely don’t know who they are and what they stand for.

If you ask the average person what their top 10 values are they would have a hard time giving you 3.
If you ask someone to articulate what they stand for, they will give you a very lengthy resume about what they do... but would have no clue what they stand for nor why they do what they do.

Business and life is quickly moving to being about something and being for someone. It’s not enough to just do something.
It’s not enough to just sell something.
It’s not even enough to just solve something.
You have to be about something and for someone.

My business focuses on that point. The point that will make all the difference. The part you need to get right before you do social media or ads or speeches or marketing or events or content or anything else.

What do you stand for? Who do you stand for?
Then follows, how can you best connect with them where they are at?

Big questions and I’m very happy and honoured to be a part of uncovering that answer. That’s what I do.
