It’s the law: It’s illegal to travel on a closed road. Don't ignore road closed signs.
Winter has now properly set in and, as the weather grows more severe, travel on the state highways can be disrupted by intense periods of heavy rain, and ice and snow in the colder parts of the country. Be prepared for us to close state highways if conditions make it unsafe to travel.
It’s stating the obvious, but you can’t travel on a closed road – as you can see, that’s under section 3.1(1) of the Land Transport (Road User) Rule.
We close roads to keep you safe. You typically won’t be able to see the reason for the road closure (for example snow making a road impassable) from the road closure point.
Don’t ignore road closed signs. Along with it being illegal, it’s a major risk to you if you get stuck, and a major risk to us if we have to send roadworkers onto a dangerous road to bail you out.
When the weather is bad, always check our pages to see if state highways are affected before you travel. Follow us if you aren’t already. You can find more information in this post: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1HJqwn4Sxa/
