Kaitiakitanga has been named as the most beautiful word in the world by the Babbel language app.

Kaitiakitanga is a Māori word that speaks to the deep-held concept of stewardship, guardianship, and protection of our environment - for present and future generations.

We’d been in New Zealand for approx 3 weeks when we visited the International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch and I listened, spellbound, to one of the most extraordinary talks I’ve ever heard. The concepts described in the way the Huskies and their steward related to each other moved something in me so deeply, I stood at the back of the room and cried. That concept was Kaitiakitanga.

Kaitiakitanga is a truly beautiful concept, and deserves its place as the most beautiful word in the world - it reflects a fundamental part of Māori culture entirely absent from my home culture. I wish everyone could have the privilege of listening to it be explained - just like this land, it changed something in me forever. I am forever grateful for being in this place, on this journey.

It is such an unbelievable privilege to be able to welcome people into their new home here in New Zealand. Driving to and from a house to prepare it for a family arriving always makes me super emotional because I know how much mental, emotional and financial energy they've poured into this dream of making the best country in the world HOME.

It's like seeing it through fresh eyes all over again 😍
