The Future Immigration

The Future Immigration Your Licensed Immigration Advisers. Our office is a fully registered company, located in Auckland New Zealand. WHY NEW ZEALAND?

New Zealand has a population of about 4 million people only, which means that it always needs people with skills, qualifications and work experience to meet its labor market requirements in a thriving economy. New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries and it has been named the most peaceful nation in the world. As per the Human Development Report 2010, New Zealand was ranked the third bes

t country in the world to live. A recent study also showed that New Zealand is ranked the fourth best country in the world to raise a family. In addition, New Zealand has one of the top class education system and its universities and educational institutes enjoy a high ranking as well. It is a great place for you and your family to live, work, study and play. The factors that contribute to New Zealand’s top rating are good healthcare and social security systems, lack of corruption and crime, a clean and green environment, good basic living standards, a strong cultural mix – the list goes on and on.

Median wage changes
From 9 March 2026, the immigration median wage will increase to NZD $35.00 per hour, based on June 2025 data. This affects several AEWV related and family visa settings.

Although the general median wage requirement for AEWV was removed in March 2025, some immigration settings are still linked to the median wage. From 9 March, these thresholds will automatically update, including:

Green List pay requirements
Exemptions from advertising and minimum skills (roles paid at least twice the median wage)
Maximum 5 year stay rules for some lower skilled roles (paid at least 1.5 times the median wage)
Income thresholds for supporting partners and dependent children
Partner and dependent income thresholds are also increasing. For example:

Skill level 1 to 3 partner support threshold will increases from NZD $26.85 to $28.00 per hour
Green List partner support threshold will increases from NZD $50.34 to $52.50 per hour
Wage thresholds for skilled residence pathways (SMC, Green List and Transport WTR) will also increase in line with the new median wage. Some applicants may need to move to a higher pay step to remain eligible — for example, teachers must now be on Step 5 of the pay scale (previously Step 4).

Updates to sponsorship income thresholds for the Parent Category and Parent Boost Visitor Visa will be communicated separately and will take effect later in 2026.

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is updating how 87 new occupations are assessed under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) programme from 3 November 2025, to ensure higher skilled occupations in the National Occupation List (NOL) are recognised.

INZ will begin recognising 87 new occupations at skill levels 1 to 3 under the NOL in immigration instructions for AEWV applications from 3 November 2025.

About the NOL
The NOL is New Zealand’s new job classification system, replacing the Australia New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) framework. It became the official standard in November 2024 and was updated again on 1 July 2025. Unlike ANZSCO, the NOL reflects today’s labour market and will be updated annually.

The immigration system is currently based on ANZSCO. Because transitioning to the NOL is a significant change, INZ is introducing it in stages and will keep employers, migrants, and advisers informed as it is gradually implemented into our systems.

Changes on 3 November 2025
From this date, employers can submit a job check for any of these newly recognised roles.

An AEWV holder in a skill level 1 to 3 role can stay in New Zealand longer and may be able to bring family. Some AEWV holders currently working in directly relevant skill level 4 or 5 roles may be able to move into one of these 87 new roles.

They will need to have either:

at least 3 years' directly relevant work experience, or
a recognised qualification.
If they meet these criteria, they may be able to apply for a further AEWV to extend how long they can stay in New Zealand.

These occupations will appear alongside existing ANZSCO codes in the enhanced Immigration Online system.
If you want to check your occupation- email me on: [email protected]
