Yesterday we stood on stage as part of Fu**up Nights Auckland and talked about the parts of building a business that rarely make the highlight reel.

The mistakes. The setbacks. The things we thought would work that absolutely did not. And the moments when we’ve had to pick ourselves up and try again.

Sharing that stage other women was a reminder of how much goes on behind every business we admire.

So often we see the end result. The award, the growth, the success story.

We hear far less about the effort, the mishaps, the doubts and the lessons that came before it.

Building a business is tough. And when all you see is everyone else’s success, it’s easy to assume you’re the only one finding it hard.

That’s why we think more of us need to share these stories. While we’re still figuring things out, too.

Thank you to Bernatte for inviting us to speak and creating space for such an honest conversation.

Your story doesn’t only become valuable once you’ve succeeded. What you’re learning along the way might be exactly what another founder needs to hear.

Confidence isn't a personality trait that your born with, it's a skill and like every skill, it needs to be practiced, worked on and naturally some people pick it up faster than others.

Think back to the first time you drove a car, spoke in front of a room, or had a difficult conversation with a client. It was uncomfortable, maybe even terrifying...but you did it anyway and every time after that got a little easier.

Showing up confidently in your business works exactly the same way. The women who seem fearless aren't living without doubt, they've just done the uncomfortable thing enough times that the fear stopped getting the final vote.
