While not an Ewaste post as such but still a form of recycling...I recommend using a ZingBokashi composting system in your household. This system turns food scraps, cooked and raw into usable garden fertilizer in 4 weeks. Since using this system, no food scraps go into our normal rubbish, which means it doesnt smell at all and we benefit from it when it gets turned through the garden beds.

Hard disk drives (HDDs) are found in many electronic items, from PCs to DVD recorders, Laptops to servers, Sky/Tevo boxes to security camera recording systems. Here is an array of hard drives, their inner workings and parts breakdown.

*people have reservations about their hard drives when it comes to recycling as they fear for their information security and privacy. All HDDs that I recycle are never plugged back in, they are fully disassembled and the rotating platters (that store the data) are shredded for precious metal recovery.

PS: I have a heap of neodymium magnets. If you have a need for strong rare earth magnets for anything at all please send a me a message. Can have as many as you want for free...

....Another reason why Ewaste recycling should be free and easily accessible to all. Must've been a post Easter garage clean out, this was on the roadside in the Hunua Gorge.....and yes I picked them up for recycling.

An oddball item this weekend, a TiVo box. This ill-fated piece of technology appeared on the scene right as Netflix emerged. With the emergence of high speed internet and smart TVs, the TiVo box didn't stand a chance...somewhere there is a warehouse full of these obsolete units...
