At Establish, we come to work every day because we want to solve the biggest problem with developing childcare centres in New Zealand. The process is so complex. Designers don’t know which rules and standards apply or what the most effective layout will be for a given site. Real estate agents don’t know what makes a site suitable for childcare or which areas have a demand for new centres. Planners

aren’t sure what other consultants should be engaged and the Council Officers are worried about what the neighbours might say. Until now, there hasn’t been a business that could remove all of the complexities and get your childcare project off to the best possible start. Our mission at Establish is to simplify the complex – so that you can focus on developing your business while we focus on developing your childcare centre. We do this by leading the development process from initial discussions through to an approved consent, keeping you updated at all times through your dedicated Establish Project Manager. Today we are the most active development consultancy in the New Zealand Early Childhood Education sector with new centres being approved weekly all around the country.

Resource consent has now been granted for a 75-child early learning centre in Hastings, marking an exciting milestone for this project.

The development will repurpose an existing building that has historically been used for educational activities, making efficient use of established infrastructure while adapting the site for modern early learning needs.

A key element of the redevelopment is the reduction in overall built form on the site. The central building will be demolished and replaced with car parking, outdoor play space, and service areas. This will create a more open, lower-scale environment that sits comfortably within the surrounding residential neighbourhood.

In partnership with Establish obtained resource consent for this 67 space ECE centre development located in Cockle Bay, Auckland . While the application did not proceed through Auckland Council on a non-notified basis, our team of experts were able to prepare and present a solid case at the half day hearing that demonstrated to the commissioners that any adverse effects could be avoided, remedied or mitigated. Consent was granted.

A purpose-built early learning centre designed with sustainability and innovation at its core. This project features open-plan learning spaces, a full solar panel system, rainwater harvesting, reclaimed timber cladding, and recycled benchtops made from repurposed plastics. We’ve recently secured approval to increase the number of children at an Auckland based early learning centre from 24 to 38, with no physical changes to the building— a significant value boost to the business and local community!

The decision was based on the following factors:

The proposed capacity increase will not impact the zone's character or streetscape, as it will be accommodated within the existing building. Only minor road markings and landscaping changes to the pickup/drop-off area are required.

The applicant’s acoustic specialist has assessed the potential noise, confirming it will comply.

The capacity increase from 24 to 38 children (58%) will be matched by a proportional increase in pickup/drop-off spaces from 2 to 3 (50%), addressing Council’s Traffic Engineer’s concerns about on-street parking and safety.

The revised pickup/drop-off area will have new road markings and better maneuvering space, providing 3 defined parking spaces. Clearly marked entry and exit points will improve traffic flow and reduce disruptions. The revised layout has been approved by Council's Traffic Engineer.

This capacity increase will meet the growing demand for early childhood care in the neighborhood.
